A beautiful five-bedroom villa situated on the South Brittany coast near Sarzeau. Carefully designed by one of the best Breton architects, this stylish modern holiday home is spacious, convenient, quiet and less than two hours drive from St Malo.

The quarter acre well-wooded garden is ideal for children, with swings and patio furniture. One of the best and safest beaches in Brittany lies just 5 minutes stroll (500 yards) down the lane, which has no through traffic. There are plenty of interesting coastal and country walks in the vicinity, and bicycles can be hired locally.

Ker ar Louarn is a spacious two-storey detached house with offroad parking for up to three cars. Accommodation comprises:

Ground Floor 

• Large living room/kitchen (30ft by 20ft) looks south through French windows across the patio to the garden and towards the sea. 
• Master bedroom with twin beds (normally positioned as large double): dressing room with fitted wardrobe: shower-room with washbasin and WC. 
• Utility room 
• Further WC off hall.

Upper floor 

•  Large landing with sea views, comfortable chairs and low children's play-table; leads to attractive wooden balcony designed for sunbathing and safety.
• Second bedroom leading off balcony with double bed, washbasin and fitted wardrobe/cupboard.
• Third bedroom overlooking the garden. Two single beds. Wardrobe. 
• Fourth small bedroom with fine view of nearby medieval chapel. Twin beds. 
• Fifth 'childrens' bedroom with three low single beds and fitted cupboard. 
• Generously sized bathroom/WC.

Fittings/equipment 

• Kitchen has oven, microwave, 4-ring electric hob, large Bosch fridge/ freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, coffeemaker; all cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. Miele washing machine in utility room. 
• Living area has dining table and chairs for 12; comfortable sofas and chairs for 10; stone fireplace.  Radio/CD player and some games/books (but no TV/Video). 
• Electric hot water and central heating. 
• Telephone for incoming, emergency and local calls only;  phone box near chapel and there is good mobile reception.
• Patio has full-sized garden table and chairs to seat eleven, and is shaded by the balcony and vine; reclining seats for garden and balcony; barbecue. 
• Child cot ( but no high chair).

About the location

The whole area around the little port of St Jacques, which is a mile from the house, is well known by the French for its sheltered sunny 'micro-climate' from mid April through to October, like Carnac, further to the west. In St Jacques you will find a small supermarket and other shops open from mid-June to mid-September, and several bars and restaurants open most of the year.

Sarzeau, three miles to the north, has excellent year-round shopping and entertainment facilities including horse-riding and all-weather tennis. A little further afield along the coast lie, to the east, the delightfully restored castle of Suscinio and, to the west, the port of Crouesty where boats may be hired, or golf played on the new 18 hole course (there are several more courses within easy driving distance).

A variety of cruises around the gulf of Morbihan or to the islands offshore can be taken from Port Navalo just beyond Crouesty. The splendid medieval town of Vannes (which has a fine aquarium) is only twenty minutes away by car. Other attractions within easy access include prehistoric sites, chateaux, museums, wildlife parks and many charming small towns & villages.

How to get here

The nearest airports are Nantes and Rennes (both just over an hour away by car) and a little further away are Dinard and Brest. 

Alternatively fly to Paris and take the TGV train to Vannes (under 3 hours), and hire a car for the final twenty minute drive to the house. Or take the Eurotunnel/TGV service all the way from London changing in Paris or Lille.

By ferry from the UK the nearest port is St Malo (under two hours drive from Sarzeau), with Roscoff a little further and Caen and Cherbourg both 3 to 3.5 hours away.  From the Channel Tunnel and short sea crossing routes, it takes up to 6 hours of steady driving - but Honfleur and Caen both make excellent stopovers around the half way mark.
