Home description

This Quercy farmhouse has been sympathetically restored to retain its original character and yet offers an appealing layout with practical and spacious accommodation. The setting is outstanding: the house is built of the whitish local stone, with a canal tile clay roof, overlooking a small hamlet and a valley, and stands in two and a half acres of meadow and woodland. It is approached by a private drive and enjoys complete privacy. The pool provides a natural focus.

This part of France, with its long hot summers, is the perfect place for a family holiday. Cahors is good wine country, and the area is also noted for many fine medieval fortified towns, of which Lauzerte is the nearest (12km). Moissac, on the ancient pilgrim route to Santiago della Compostela in northern Spain, with its famous cloister, lies 20km south; and Montcuq, a bustling market town, is also about 20km.

The dramatic Gorges du Tarn are within easy reach, as are also Albi, with its wonderful cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrac museum, the Ingres museum at Montauban, Rocamadour and Toulouse.  While within two hours or so you can be at the sea or in the Pyrenees.

The house is on different levels and so does not feel too large for a single family, yet is comfortably furnished and equipped for 12 people. The accommodation comprises:

• Bedrooms : 1 double en suite, 1 double, 2 twins, dormitory for 4, cot.
• Bathrooms : 3 further bathrooms, one with shower.
• Kitchen : Dishwasher, fridge/freezer, hob, oven and washing machine.
• Salon : Seating for 6-8 people and open fire.
• Dining room : Seating for 12.
• Entertainment : Table tennis, cd, cassette, radio.
• Outside : Pool (12m x 6m) with diving board, loungers etc., balcony, barbecue, terrace and parking.
• General : Oil-fired central heating (this is charged for long lets), telephone (charged at cost), cleaner (at extra cost), linen included.

About the location

The Tarn-et-Garonne region is deeply rural and agricultural, with densely wooded valleys and sweeping views. Around the Lot, Tarn and Aveyron rivers lies an enchanting, undiscovered landscape of undulating hills, fields of sunflowers, maize and lavender and small hilltop villages built in the lovely white Quercy stone, with breathtaking inspirational views.

The whole feel of the area is restful, with wonderful fruit and vegetables - peaches, cherries, plums, cepes, walnuts and of course truffles and pate de fois gras, the local delicacies in season.

Places well worth a visit are St. Cirq La Popie (on the Lot), and the atmospheric drive to the ancient village of St. Antonin Noble Val and the Grottes and on to the Gorges de L'Aveyron (35km east of Montauban). Toulouse is the nearest international airport (just over 1 hour by car).
