La Faviere is an area of the parish of Bormes les Mimosas. This medieval village, about 2 miles back from the sea, is extremely picturesque, and worth a visit (or two). It has a market on Fridays.

The apartment is quiet, yet superbly convenient. Entry is by coded lock. It is less than 500 metres from a clean sandy mediterranean beach, safe for young children. It faces quiet maintained gardens, yet takes only 5  minutes to walk to the beach, or to the centre of La Faviere, where there are many restaurants during the summer months.

Car parking is restricted. There is a car park with coded barrier entry, and we have a marked parking place with lockable post.

Out of Season

Have you thought of coming here out of season. Although it is much quieter, some people prefer this. See the spectacular autumn colours over the Gorges de Verdun. Behind Bormes les Mimosas is the Foret des Maures. There are many hiking trails through this, and at least one Grand Randonee- long distance path. You will need a walking map, but it is very attractive rural France. Hills rise to 500 metres, and path can be steep, so you will need good boots etc. In October, there is a sweet chestnut festival held in Collobrieres, an old village in the Foret des Maures. Within some 30 miles of our apartment, between Toulon and Marseille, there are areas of rock which look exciting for climbing. You can visit chic Cannes or Nice, Toulon with its attractive harbour, or Marseille, all more peaceful than in the summer. And there's the Monaco Grand Prix.

This small apartment faces south, in La Faviere part of Bormes les Mimosas. The apartment is on the second floor of a three floor quiet block. 

• Entrance hall - small area
• Kitchenette / lounge / dining room - there is an electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and electric water heating. There is a radio/CD/audio tape player, DVD player and satellite TV.
• Double bedroom
• Separate cabine - containing bunk beds for children
• Bathroom - with shower

Outside

Double French doors lead to a balcony, with outside lighting, and table and four chairs. The apartment faces south, with trees, making it discrete, and there are views to distant hills.

There is an individual, marked parking place, with lockable parking post (essential in the popular Riviera during the summer).

We prefer guests not to smoke in the apartment and regretfully no pets are permitted. You will need to bring all bed linen, towels and tea-towels. Beach mats, books, games etc are supplied. Bring CDs, DVDs if you wish.

About the location

This area of France is midway between Toulon and St. Tropez, in an area of France of outstanding natural beauty. It is slightly off the usual tourist route, because the motorway runs to the north of the Foret des Maures. This forest lies immediately to the north of Bormes les Mimosas, and is the second largest natural original forest in France. The whole area is much less built up than the area around Nice and Cannes, and is a beautiful area where many French people go on holiday. You can certainly polish up your French here.

Le Lavandou is the adjacent small town, one miles away, accessible by car, or by a cedar board walk, where you can walk immediately behind the beach, without getting sand in your shoes. Le Lavandou has a 'Pavilion bleu', a mark of clean beaches. It has at least six beautiful sandy beaches, and one naturist beach. All the beaches are clean, as is the sea. The area is said to have 300 days of sun per year. But note, it does rain occasionally, although this is usually shortlived. There are quite a few shops, and a market on Thursdays, where you can buy anything from olives to a painting.

How to get here

By Air: There are international airports at Marseille, Nice and Toulon, from  which you can hire cars. It takes approx an hour an a half to drive to the apartment from Nice. Toulon airport is situated at Hyeres, only 30 minutes drive away.  There are now very  cheap flights to all these airports from several UK airports and it is possible to rent a car cheaply as well using the internet.

By Train: The French TGV (high speed train) system is excellent, and it is quite possible to leave England at 6am and be in Toulon at 4.30pm. One can take a bus, taxi or hire a car from there.

By Car: The whole of France is well served by motorways, and it is possible, with two drivers, to drive from England in one day. Some people prefer to do it in two.
