Home description

Falsegarre Haut  is a charming french farmhouse set in the lee of a beautiful hill affording truly magnificent views, great walks and well maintained gardens which includes hundreds of lavender bushes. Situated on 10 acres (2 acres laid to landscaped gardens) the well furnished house overlooks valleys of undulating fields and hills ever changing with their crops of tobacco, sunflowers and rape seed. The long provençal style balcony running the length of the main house is ideally positioned for outdoor meals and entertaining, whilst a number of other relaxation spots provide the opportunity to have some solitude.

The swimming pool and patio are positioned so as to feel 'on top of the world' with wonderful daytime vistas and splendid night-time displays of the 'Milky Way'.

A long tree-lined driveway leads up to the dwelling where you enter a large circular gravel driveway with plenty of parking.

The main house is laid out as follows:

Upper floor

The front door leads into a spacious hallway with access to:

• Lavender bedroom -  large double bedroom with beams and wooden floor.This comprises of  walk in  wardrobe and ensuite bathroom, handshower/basin and WC. The bedroom is well furnished with bedside cabinet , bedside table  and dressing table. There is an electric radiator and double French windows overlooking  the valley.
• Double bedroom - large double room with  ensuite shower room, basin and WC. and original  wooden floor. This room is simply furnished with double bed, bedside cabinet, bedside table , wardrobe and chest of drawers. Double French windows with lovely  view of the valley.
• Twin bedroom -  large double bedroom with beamed ceiling.This room has twin wooden beds bedside tables , chest of drawers and free standing wardrobe.Double French windows overlooking valleys.
• Separate WC and basin

Lower floor

You can go down the internal staircase or enter the lower floor from the patio. This large open plan, oak-beamed dining room / living room consists of the following:

• Dining room with a large old pine dining table and chairs,  bookcase with a large selection of fiction / non-fiction, adult / childrens books.  There is a pair of French doors leading off the dining area onto a large patio overlooking the valley which is well equipped with barbecue and  patio dining furniture.
• Sitting room is comfortably furnished with 2 large  sofas,  occasional tables and all the bits and pieces that make up a home. There is a music centre with CD's, a large TV, video and satellite system as well as an extensive video library. There is a further pair of French doors leading off to another sun terrace with table and chairs.
• Kitchen leading off from the dining room  is a separate kitchen newly installed in 2008. Is of country design and includes all the usual modern appliances , including dishwasher, microwave, electric oven, gas hob. There is also a selection of spices and condiments for guests use. Next  door to the kitchen is a small utility  room with washing machine.

Garden/Pool/our woods

Stretching out to the side and in front of the property is the garden/pool area. The pool is built on the edge of a hill surrounded by a large patio with loungers and patio furniture. It is in a very sunny location with fantastic views of the valley. There is a large shady tree and umbrellas if required in the height of the summer.  The rest of the garden is laid to well tended shrubs and lawn with swings for children. Leading up the hill from behind Falsegarre Haut, you climb slowly trhough woods to reach the top when you can enjoy a walk through lichen-covered trees. For the more intrepid, you can continue walking until you reach the local Bouloc sky-diving school and obstacle course!

About the location

Falsegarre Haut is located in the Tarn et Garonne about an hour from Toulouse and the following destinations are within easy reach:

Montaigu du Quercy (5 km) - great Saturday morning market, bank, pâtisserie, supermarket, fuel, pharmacy, doctor, dentist, newsagent with English newspapers and magazines, French 'pubs, pizzeria and Hotel du Midi restaurant - highly recommended walk to top of the village.

Montcuq (21 km) - Fabulous Sunday morning market selling everything -  great food, French crockery, clothing, pottery, soaps, baskets, hammocks, etc. Wonderful atmosphere. Very crowded so do get there early. Very cosmopolitan with good reasonably-priced restaurants. There is a good cave as you enter the village as well as a brocante just down the hill. Explore the lanes for points of interest and architecture. The vide-greniers in this town are particularly good.

Lauzerte (8km) - Another beautiful bastide village. Don't stop driving when you enter the village... keep going to the top of the hill until you reach the square which is magnificent ! Visit the church, nunnery, see the views,  have a glass of pastis and simply soak in the atmosphere. This is a very artistic village and many musical evenings are held in the square. The Hotel du Quercy is famed for its fare and rumour has it that it was recently awarded a Michelin Star.

Rocquecor (12 km) - enjoy a beautiful drive up to this very quaint village and visit the pub/restaurant at the top. - Café du Centre. Excellent food and atmosphere. Normally the last weekend in August, this village hosts a massive brocante which is well worth a visit. Remember to take cash to all French brocantes!

There are many more... Cahors (buzzy, famous for red wine), Moissac (with its cloisters), Tournon d'Agenais (views, restaurants), Agen (fashionable, great shopping). And of course, the beautiful St Cirque la Popie...

All in all, a truly wonderful holiday destination.

How to get here

• Bergarac airport approx 1 1/4 hours is well served by Ryanair and other budget airlines.

  Toulouse (112 km east - 1 1/2 hour driving) with Air France or Carcassonne ( 2 hours drive ) with Ryanair (less expensive option).

• Alternatively, you can drive from any of the major ports (approximately 12 hour drive from Calais).
