Secluded Riverside Holiday Cottage with Stunning Views details
Property description
Are you looking for a stress-busting holiday home away from the madding tourist crowds? Do you hate the hustle and bustle of work and city life? Do you yearn to escape from the rat-race to a place of retreat, tranquillity and total relaxation; where you can walk along wooded trails, sit beside a river and fish for trout, or maybe just sip your wine in the afternoon sunshine and listen to the river gushing below?
If so, Puech del Grou may be the answer to your dreams.
As you approach the cottage through hairpin bends, on a summer’s day, you can feel the clean, cool atmosphere of the granite hills of the Sidobre. The fierce southern sun is filtered through the leaves of the deciduous forest and your cares evaporate.
The stone cottage sits alone on the steep side of a river valley, with breathtaking views of the valley and the deciduous woodlands of the surrounding National Park. The setting is magical, a haven of tranquillity amid the wild wooded hills along the trout-laden River Agout. Downstream from the cottage is a small reservoir and dam. Puech del Grou used to be the dam-keeper’s cottage.
A track linking the pretty riverside villages of Vabre and Brassac (20 km) passes below the house and provides a wonderful trail for walking or cycling, rarely used except by an occasional local fisherman.
There is a small village with a boulangerie up over the hill, and pretty riverside villages ten minutes away for shopping and restaurants. Twenty minutes takes you to the larger town of Castres.

- Two bedrooms - spacious and bright rooms. One double and one twin, with polished wood floors throughout. The beds are comfortable and you can go to sleep lulled by sound of the river and wake to the songs of the birds and the sight of the treetops on the hillside opposite.
There are wall-mounted electric heaters throughout the house to supplement the heat from the wood-burner.
Outside
In front of the cottage is a walled, natural granite terrace with open views of the stunning scenery. You can enjoy your meal and glass of wine in full sunshine on the terrace or, should you prefer, in a shady glade to one side of the house. To the other side of the house is a woodstore and barbecue area. The property also comes with an area of very steep, wooded land a few hundred metres away, which provides the cottage with its own supply of fresh spring water and with timber for fuel. Opposite lies a working watermill occupied by the nearest neighbours.
