Charming Stone Cottage in 2.5 Acres details
Property description
The property was built about 150 years ago and was restored approx 26 years ago. It is close to the famous Gorges Du Tarn, an area renowned for being the largest but least populated department in France, with its wonderful climate, scenic beauty and for its tranquility. The beautiful clear waters of the river Tarn is but a 30 minute walk away.
The grounds consist of a natural garden, hillside of scrub oak and a stone flagged terrace from which breathtaking views of the valley can be enjoyed. The mountain stream which runs down the mountainside and alongside the property provides us with spring water. Butane gas is used for cooking, hot water and refridgerator.
We have always prefered the romance of oil lamps and candlelight. A maintenance free septic tank was installed about 9 years ago for the flush loos and waste water.
There is no mains water supply. But stream water is gravity fed into a header tank to allow water to sinks for washing up and flushing loos.
La Borie Seque is 90 minutes from the Mediterranean coast and international airports at Montpellier and Nimes. The nearest airport is Rodez which is 45 minute drive away and takes flights from London airports. Mainline rail links Paris with the ancient market town of Millau. A lovely town boasting a facinating open air market each Friday. There is a local shop and a pharmacy approx 2 miles away.
With the recent completion of the Viaduct du Millau (the longest bridge in Europe) which spans 2.5km across the Tarn Valley much interest has been added to the region and transport links to the South dramatically improved. On a clear day the South side of the bridge can be seen from the terrace of LBS.
The area offers some of the finest walking and mountaineering countryside in Europe, with excellent canoeing and rafting, horse-riding and handgliding facilities. Fishing is very popular and permits easily obtained. Lake sailing is also available 20 miles distant.
The owners are Simon and Lisa Langton for 6 years now and previously owned by an English couple for 18 years.
