Brest’s main tourist spot is the old castle with its outstanding 15th century structure that offers a panoramic view of the city. The collection of the Musée National de la Marine (National Navy Museum), featuring Brest’s maritime tradition, is hosted in three of the castle’s towers.

Another museum worth visiting is the Musée de Vieux Brest housed in the 14th century Tour Tanguy on the opposite bank of the River Penfeld depicting the city on the eve of WWII.

Océanopolis marine centre, situated a few kilometres east of the city centre, is an aquarium popular among visitors and a favourite spot for families showcasing a variety of interesting sea life and boasting a 3D cinema.

A few kilometres out of town there are lovely landscapes, from sandy beaches to grottos, to tall granite cliffs. You can practice sunbathing, windsurfing, yachting and fishing in the area.

Restaurants in Brest have a wide variety of seafood. Fresh fish is featured on practically every menu and you can even find a few fish-only restaurants.

Brittany's most famous local delicacy, the Breton crêpe, is another culinary feature. There are many crêpe restaurants (called crêperies) and Breton cider may also be drunk.

Traditional biscuits include Traou Mad which is a full fat butter biscuit, somewhat similar to Scottish shortbreads.
