St Macaire is a mediaeval town dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. It has a range of shops, restaurants and a bar. During fairly recent years, many of the ancient buildings and narrow roads have been sympathetically restored

St Macaire, home to 1500 or so inhabitants is located on the road D1113 on the north bank of the river Garonne. Opposite, on the south bank is the much larger town of Langon.
