Gabian is a fine example of a fortified medieval village known as a "circulade" with its maze of narrow streets and alleys. Home to around 700 inhabitants it nestles in the rolling wooded hillsides at the confluence of two rivers forming a pool above the picturesque local weir. Gabian has a history dating back to Roman times and it situated in the foothills of the Haut Languedoc, on the wine route mid-way between Pezenas and Faugeres. It boasts a bar/restaurant, open all hours grocers, bakers, newsagent, post office, pharmacy and medieval church. Gabian is in the heart of a beautiful wine-growing region known for its countryside, historic villages, castles and abbeys. Small tracks lead from the village along streams, through wooded hillsides and the colourful patchwork of vineyards.
