St-Jean de Minervois is a small village of 40 inhabitants and centre of a community of 120 people where one includes the hamlets of Gimios, Barroubio, St-Martial and Belleraze.

It is situated within easy reach of Bize-Minervois, Minerve, Aigne and St-Chinian and is approximately 40 minutes form the beaches of the Mediterranean and 2 to 3 hours from the ski resorts of the Pyrenees. It is also known for its world famous award-wining "Muscat de St-Jean".

The village is surrounded by vineyards, the sun reflecting from the white limestone helping to produce this characteristic Muscat from the low lying vines with their small grapes. An incredibly beautiful landscape with here and there a small hut or an almost-hidden mill. For those in need of a shelter from the sun, the "Dieuvaille canyon" offers cool freshness in the shadow of its oak groves.

To reach "Dieuvaille canyon", park your car at the "Cave Cooperative" follow the path through the garrigue to the hamlet of Gimios, continue to the old church in the valley on to "Dieuvaille", the hamlet of Barroubio. Totally unspoilt countryside remaining as it has been for hundreds of years.

On your return - back to the 21st century with a wine-tasting at the "Cave Cooperative" and a warm welcome and relaxed meal at the "Auberge de l'Ecole".

The old school with its original playground is a perfect place for a quiet meal or an outing with friends. Food can be served inside or outside, depending on the weather.
