Duranus is a small pearched village which is very pretty. It is famous for its viewpoint called Belvedere du Saut des Francais which is a heritage site viewpoint. A 200 metre sheer cliff is testimony to the dramatic history of the area. In 1793, according to tradition, French volunteers in the Revolutionary armies, captured by the local rebels knows as Barbets, were ordered to jump into the precipice ‘by order of the Republic’. Hence the viewpoint name of Frenchman’s Leap.

Also visit Chapelle Saint Michel situated 1,000 metres above sea level near Roccasparviera, reached via a 2 hour hike from the village, the original site of the village abandoned in 17th Century.
