The city of Vesoul is situated in the region of Franche-comte, and is the capital of the department of the Saône. It is beautifully situated between the hill, La Motte and the Durgeon River.

Vesoul became part of France in 1678. There are several old buildings, including St. George Church from 18th century.
Vesoul was the birthplace of Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904), painter and sculptor who produced many works in a historical, Orientalist style.
