Belley is situated in a pleasant area in the Ain department of the Rhône-Alpes region bordering Jura and is roughly equidistant from Lyon, Grenoble and Geneva.

Belley is the historical capital of the Bugey area and also offers a wide variety of activities including swiming, watersports and fishing. There are rivers, lakes and rolling countryside for you to enjoy.

There are many local food products, wines and gastronomic experiences in this area to give your taste buds a treat. The town is famed for its cheese, la Tome de Belley, also known as Chevret or still "Le pave d'Affinois". It is also at the centre of the Bugey wine region.

Due to its proximity to the Rhone and various lakes and tarns there are many places offering watersports and fishing opportunities.  A variety of swimming venues including a natural lake area are also available.
