The source of Evian water which takes over 15 years to filter through mineral rich glacial sands in the French Alps and is bottled at source from the Cachat Spring Evian les Bains is on the southern banks of Lake Geneva.

It is claimed the water was discovered during a walk taken by the Marquis de Lessert when he drank water from the Sainte Catherine source on the property of M.Cachat. The marquis, who was allegedly suffering from kidney and liver problems, drank the water all during his stay and claimed his health improved although there was and still is no medical basis for this claim. M.Cachat began selling the water!
