Situated just 25km from the centre of Paris and close to Disneyland, Evry is home to the Cathedrale de la Resurrection, constructed in 1995 and one of the few 20th century cathedrals built in a truly modern style. Originally the commune was called Évry-sur-Seine (meaning "Évry upon Seine"). On June 29, 1965 the name of the commune was shortened into Évry only.
