This is a rural community with a rich flora and fauna it is situated at the foot of the Montagne Noire facing the Pyrenees and overlooking and the Cabardes vineyards, the commune consists of 2 hamlets 2km apart. In 954AD, Brousses, the domain of the counts of Carcassonne was given to the abbey of Montolieu. Le Villaret belong to the same abbey from 889. There is an old paper mill at Brousses on the banks of the river Dure a 400 m botanical walk leads to the mill, paper has been made there for 4 centuries.
