Situated in the Aude in Southern France, Davejean was founded originally in 1067 as a fortified bourg. Today, it is a small, picturesque village with narrow streets and about a hundred inhabitants.
Davejean (Aude) mini guide
Davejean is situated roughly at the centre of a triangle formed by the cities of Carcassonne, Narbonne and Perpignan. Within 50 minutes of each - and the Mediterranean coast - it makes an ideal centre for touring. It is about 1.5 hours by car from the Pyrenees and the Spanish border.
The village is at the heart of the territory inhabited by the mysterious Cathars (see the best-selling book: 'Holy Blood and Holy Grail', during the twelfth and thirteenth century - their remote castle strongholds can still be seen at Montsegur, Peyrepertuse and Arques, all within half an hour's drive of the house, as is the mysterious Rennes le Chateau.
