Villardonnel is a charming small village located 20 minutes north of Carcassonne nestling in the foothills of the Montagne Noire. The inhabitants are know as Villardonnellois, or Villardonnelloises. It has an average of altitude of 360m. In the centre of the village, in the middle of a large park, is a castle, currently private property. It is a curious work X1Xe neo-gothic century. In the parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptist (XIIIe century) rebuilt in 1520, you can admire the pink marble columns which come from the mines of Caunes-Minervois. To the south of the village, on the road leading to Salsigne, there are ruins of an old gold mine.

Air liks by British Airways and Easyjet from Gatwick, British Airways and Air France from Heathrow and a variety of airlines fly from regional airports to this location. Take the A62 then A61 Autoroute following signs to Montpellier (sorry - toll to pay - but if you can spare the time, the N113 takes longer, but it is free) - exit at Junction 23. |
