Lisieux is the capital of the Pays d’Auge and a good starting point for exploring Normandy’s countryside of wooded valleys, manor houses, cider orchards, half timbered houses and dairy farms.

Lisieux is a superb town, amazingly rich in heritage and a "spiritual town". It is an important commercial and industrial centre.
Local produce can be sampled at the famous Lisieux market on Wednesdays and Saturdays including pungent but delicious cheeses! Such as Camembert, Livarot and the creamy Pont L'Eveque. Sparkling cider is the local drink, but the famous Calvados (or apple brandy) and the delicious herbal liquor called Benedictine, can be drunk there.
Lisieux comes second after Lourdes as a famous pilgrimage Centre with its magnificent basilica devoted to St Therese who was canonised in 1925. She is one of the most known spiritual figures of the last 100 years.
This original town is a shopper's paradise and with many tearooms where one can taste some of the best cakes in France with fresh cream, brandy and apples.
