Pons is a charming town in the Charente Maritime, between Jonzac and Saintes.
Pons (Charente-Maritime) mini guide
Pons is dominated by its ‘donjon’, a 12th century keep which now houses the tourist office. The old town has tiny medieval streets (les ruelles) and imposing ramparts looking down onto the River Seugne 30 metres below, all of which can be explored on foot.
The town is situated on the ancient route of the pilgrims and is also home to a museum of the pilgrims. Good bars and restaurants are available.
Trips of the river are available (balades en barque), as is fishing. On the outskirts is a ‘base de loisirs’ with crazy golf and other entertainment for children.
