Located in a tranquil part of France with many lakes in the surrounding area. Tulle is situated in the Plateau of Limousin in the Central Massif. It stretches along the meandering River Correze for 3 km. There are splendid views over the river from the town which has many interesting boulevards.
Tulle (Corrèze) mini guide
Tulle is the industrial capital of the Lower Limousin (Bas-Limousin) and the main town of the département of Corrèze. It is full of fascinating winding lanes and stairways bordered by impressive houses – some as old as the fourteenth century – with an imposing Hôtel de Ville at the end of the main commercial street.
The Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is noted for its delicate 75 meter bell tower. Every Wedneday a market is held in front of the Catherdral which offers lace, clothes and an extensive selection of local produce for sale. Close by is the Cloister of Tulle André Mazeyrie museum which at one time was a Benedictine monastery. It exhibits range from archeology to accordions, as well as a large contingent of firearms, which once formed one of the town's major industries, as well as lace.
The area around Tulle is a water lovers paradise with rivers and lakes making it a centre for fishing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.
