Bonifacio (Corse du Sud)

Idyllic beaches and rugged limestone cliffs make this old port town diversly interesting.

Bonifacio (Corse du Sud) mini guide

Located at the southern tip of Corsica, Bonifacio is the birthplace of Napolean.

An old port town, there is a marina in the harbour and it is an active fishing port.  The port is an important link with Sardinia which is close.  From here excursions are possible to the Lavezzi and Cavallo islands.

Bonifacio was created as a fortress and was named after its creator, Boniface II of Tuscany.

Although it has spectacular, rugged limestone cliffs there are also idyllic beaches.

The "Haute-Ville" (Upper Town) is built on a limestone peninsula and has most of the town's heritage, monuments and buildings.
