Corte boasts the islands only university so during term time the bars and cafés lining the long main street fill with students. Corte's charm is concentrated in the tranquil "haute ville", where the citadelle presides over a warren of narrow, cobbled streets. Generally there is a market at one end of the main street.
Immediately behind the town the Restonica and Tavignano gorges give easy access to some of the region's best mountain scenery enjoyed by following the marked trails that wind through them.
