Sartene (Corse du Sud) mini guide

In south-west Corsica, Sartene is a few kilometres into the mountains south-east of Propriano. It is mainly known for the local Sartene wine.

The town is centered around the Place de la Liberation and has excellent views across the valley.

The old town has narrow streets which have a number of different tall ancient houses, linked by arches and alleys.  Occasioinally a passage is found to be blocked by unexpected outcrops of mountain!  There are narrow passageways and staircases which takes the visitor back to the 'old' Corsica.

Sartène is a good base for exploring the important prehistoric sites at Cauria and Palaggiu.  There is stunning countryside and the beaches around Propriana are also in easy reach.
