Trains and booking

The TGV high speed train operates at speeds of up to 350km/h, linking over 70 main cities in France. Reservation is compulsory and booking opens 90 days before the date of departure. On board, there is a bar-buffet car where customers can purchase drinks and hot or cold meals, along with vending machines. On some TGV trains there is a family space and nursery available in standard class. The family seating area consists of 4 seats around a foldable table with a games board. The nursery is located close to the family space, allowing both parents and children to enjoy their journey.

Routes and Destinations

The TGV system radiates from Paris, taking in main routes and many tributaries, giving access to dozens of towns and cities. It covers these major areas of France:

  • West from Paris into Normandy, including Rouen and Le Havre; the Loire Valley including Le Mans and Nantes; Brittany as far as Brest.
  • South West from Paris, including Bordeaux, Bayonne, Toulouse, Perpignan and Montpellier.
  • South East from Paris, taking in Dijon, Lyon, Avignon and the Cote d’Azur.
  • East from Paris is the new TGV Est Européen line. With their comfortable designer carriages, TGV Est trains bring the fascinating regions of Champagne-Ardenne, famous for its sparkling wine, and Alsace-Lorraine, with its unique German-influenced culture, within easy reach. 33 towns and cities are on the route, including Nancy and Strasbourg. With TGV Est, the west of Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg, are all easily reachable and even travel between east and west France is easier, as the journey can be made without changing at Paris. For example there are 5 services a day from Paris to Luxembourg
