Fontenay Abbey

Founded in 1118, it is the only Burgundian monastery to survive intact, despite conversion to a paper mill in the early 19th century. It was restored in the early 1900s to its original form. It is one of the oldest and most complete Cistercian abbeys in Europe, and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.

Public Transport:	By car: Fontenay is 6km from Montbard, 30km from the A6 Paris - Marseille autoroute. Exit at Bierre-les-Semur, take the D980 towards Montbard. By train: Train (SNCF) station in Montbard. Taxis at the place de la gare. Dijon-Paris TGV stops here. By boat: Montbard marina (boat rental).
