Dune du Pyla - Arcachon

This mighty sand dune is situated a few kilometres outside of Arcachon. Referred to as the largest sand dune in Europe at more than 110 metres high and approximately 3km in length.

Facilities general:	Located on the D218, the Dune du Pilat is well signposted. There are parking facilities on site (3 euros) located under pine trees. There is a choice of souvenir shops and food places in addition to on site toilets and showers.

If you do not fancy treading hot sand to reach the top, there is always the 154 steps to climb instead. The views are well worth the effort and stretch out along the coast and out to sea and back across Les Landes forests.

Getting back down the dune is easy - take along a sandboard with you and ride back down!
