Aven d'Orgnac caves

The caves at Orgnac were only discovered in 1935 but since then thousands of visitors have marveled at the three fabulous chambers stretching for over 30,000m2 which allow the visitor to appreciate the richness and variety of the underground world.

Public Transport:	Situated near Orgnac l'Aven. Motorway Lyon-Marseille, exit Bollene, through Pont St Esprit, towards Barjac. Well signposted. 25 km west of the Rhône Valley. 18 km south of Pont d'Arc.

In the year 2000 the cave system was listed as one of France’s greatest sites (Grand site de France). Besides the usual stalagmites and stalactites there are other phenomenon such as the “pine cone” and the “palm trees” and the organ pipes. The tour takes around an hour which includes a son & lumiere spectacle.

You can continue your discovery of this environment with a caving expedition. You need to be fit and confident in an enclosed situation. Apply at the reception desk.

On the same site you will find the Regional Museum of Prehistory. There are notes in English explaining the exhibits.
