This Romanesque church near Royan was built in 1094 century and was a staging post on the route of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrims crossed the River Gironde at this spot

Talmont  itself is a beautiful little enclosed and fortified village which was founded around the church in 1284, according to the plans of the ancient bastides, on the orders of Edward I of England.

This is beautiful place to visit and has some unique little shops to wander around during a warm summer evening.
