The islands of the Frioul consist of four limestone islands, Pomègues, Ratonneau, If and Tiboulen, which make up an archipelago seen from the shore of Marseille in the South of France.

On one of the islands sits the Chateau d'If, a former fortress that was built under the rule of François I in order to defend the city of Marseille. The author Alexandre Dumas made the Château d'If famous, when he used the island as the prison setting for his hero, the Count of Monte Cristo.
