Gourdon (Lot)
Gourdon is a picturesque medieval town set in the beautiful Lot/Dordogne region of South West France
Gourdon, capital of the Bouriane, is a small picturesque town with many fascinating side streets leading up to the old quarter and church and the Table d'Orientation which has a stunning 360° view over the Bouriane countryside. It has a history dating back to medieval times and the Grottes de Cougnac has the oldest viewable prehistoric cave paintings dating back 25000 years. On the circular route around the town you will find a variety of excellent restaurants and pavement café bars where you can sit and watch the world go by. The Tuesday and Saturday markets sell local produce to sample amongst which is the famous Fois Gras. There are 5 supermarkets (including a Carrefour) and several boulangeries selling delicious breads, pastries and croissants for breakfast ! On the outskirts of the town there are 2 lakes in a beautiful setting. One is for swimming and has a play area for children - the other is for fishing and temporary licences can be obtained in the town.
