Home description

Les Bois is an old longere or farmhouse in the heart of SW France on the Charente/Dordogne borders occupying a unique hilltop location in grounds in excess of a 2 acres, offering stunning views in all directions and thus ensuring peace and tranquillity, yet no more than 5 minutes drive to the nearest town of Montbron. The nearest shop/bar/restaurant is 1km away.

Our two gites, 'La Vieille Maison' and 'La Grange' have been renovated to a high standard. Both properties have their own patio areas which face different directions.  They are complete with garden furniture (including sunbeds), BBQ and ample parking space. Each gite comes with its own TV (English-Free to Air and French channels) and DVD player, together with a large selection of reading material and board games for both children and adults.

Guests have permission to use the owner's private 10m x 5m pool. Golf equipment is available at a small charge and there is also a selection of bicycles. Wi-Fi access in La Grange (walls too thick for La Vieille Maison!)

A spacious disabled friendly gite offering ample accommodation for up to 6 people.

Ground Floor

• Dining/living area with patio doors opening on to own patio.
• Fully equipped kitchen area with cooker, washing machine, fridge-freezer and microwave.
• Disabled friendly bedroom with en suite wet room with shower and wc. This bedroom is designed for use with a wheelchair, however accomodates twin beds for able bodied use. Double patio doors from bedroom lead out onto patio.

Upstairs

• Large double bedded room
• Large twin bedded room
• Shower and WC

Cot and high chair available if requested.

About the location

The rich and varied heritage of France is well represented in this region from the colourful, bustling weekly markets of Piegut Pluviers or Riberac to the historic town of La Rochefoucauld with its medieval chateau and chocolaterie. For those wishing to sample the delights of traditional French cuisine there is an abundance of restaurants and auberges to choose from – the owners will be only too happy to recommend from personal experience.

If it’s culture you’re after then the old walled city of Angouleme is a must, along with Perigeux and Rochechouart to name but three. Limoges itself boasts a medieval quarter to rival the best, as well as a host of shops and pottery outlets.

Indeed, there is something for everyone in this region. As a returning client told us "Whichever way we go from here we always find something different to see or do".

But if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time there is so much beautiful countryside teeming with wildlife and just begging to be explored.

How to get here

By Air:

• Ryan Air - from Stansted to Angouleme (30 mins drive - April to     October)
• Ryan Air - from Stansted, Liverpool and Nottingham to Limoges (1 hrs drive away)
• Fly Be – Southampton and Newcastle – Limoges
• Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Poitiers and Bergerac airports are also within 2 hours drive.

The TGV Angouleme: is half an hour’s drive.

Car hire is available at the airports and TGV station at Angouleme.

By Ferry: It is approximately 6 hours drive from most Channel ports, 7/8 hours from Calais.
