Home description

In grounds of over 2 acres the villa faces south and enjoys the sun throughout the day. Although in a quiet peaceful location the medieval town of Sarlat are only minutes away. Known for centuries as the Perigord Noir, Sarlat dates back to the 9th century. With its maze of alleys and squares and cathedral it is by far the most important tourist site in the region. The city is very much alive particularly at night during the summer months.

The accommodation at La Sarelle comprises:

The entrance hall of the property opens into a large lounge, kitchen and dining room. There are two large patio doors with electric shutters that open on to the covered veranda and overlook the grounds and swimming pool. From one end of the lounge are tiled steps leading to the four bedrooms.

10 tiled steps lead up to two double bedrooms both en-suite.

• Bedroom 1: Double bedded room en-suite with bath. Patio door opening onto a small veranda overlooking the pool and grounds.
• Bedroom 2: Twin bedded room with en-suite shower room. Window overlooking the garden to the side of the property.
• Separate toilet and wash hand basin.

4 tiled steps lead down to two bedrooms both en-suite.

• Bedroom 3: Double bedded room en-suite with shower room. Window overlooking the side garden.
• Bedroom 4: Twin bedded room en-suite shower room with small private terrace overlooking the swimming pool.
• Separate toilet with wash hand basin.
• Kitchen: Spacious with gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer. Door leading into a
• Large utility room with washing machine, small fridge, ironing board, iron and hot water heater.
• Lounge/Dining: Two large sofas, two armchairs and foot stools, coffee table, television and video, radio/CD player. Dining table comfortably seating 8.

Outside:

Immediately surrounding the villa there are flowerbeds with shrubs, plants and lawn, the remainder of the grounds being prairie. The covered veranda has a large table with 8 chairs for outside dining. The swimming pool is of a good size 10m x 5m and has the benefit of the sun all day. The ample terrace is well equipped with sun beds and umbrella. The property is approached from a private driveway.

To the side of the villa there is a purpose built barbecue.

There is electric heating throughout making this property suitable for year round letting.

Nearby attractions:

• Sarlat the historic medieval market town with its restaurants, cafes and bars as well as tout les commerces supermarche, banks, pharmacies, doctors, dentist and an excellent hospital. It is one of the most attractive towns in southwest France. Street entertainment for all the family during the summer evenings.. The picturesque market on Wednesday in the centre of the old part of town Place de Liberte.
• Beynac and its castle are undoubtedly one of the finest sites in France. The village is built in stages above the waters edge at the bottom of a 150-metre cliff topped by an impressive fort.
• The river Dordogne has produced the superb limestone cliffs for which the Dordogne is famous. With its innumerable chateau towering over water and the picturesque riverside villages including Montfort, Castelnaud, Vitrac, Domme and La Roque Gageac it is the most splendid stretch of France's most beautiful river. A canoe or kayak can last as long as you like and its shallow waters are completely safe for young children and beginners alike.
• Montignac on the banks of the Vezere owes its fame to the discovery of the 'eighth wonder of the world' the Lascaux cave. Thought to dates as far back at 15,000 BC the Lascaux cave discovered by four small boys in 1940 is the finest of all prehistoric painted caves.
• La Roque Gageac recently awarded the enviable title of the most beautiful village in France is the third site in France after Mont-Saint-Michel and Rocamadour that incidentally is not far from Sarlat.
• Les Eyzies commonly introduced as the worlds prehistoric capital. Visit the market that stretches along the riverside, the cafes and restaurants and the Musee National France's richest prehistory museum.
• La Bugue surrounded by wooded hills and built in terraces on the bank of a bend in the river Vezere this little town is referred to as the golden gate to history. A large, remarkably equipped aquarium museum, the Bara-Bahau cave, Saint Cirq du Bugue, the prehistoric site of La Farrassie and the castle at Fleurac are close by.
• Rouffignac gives you the chance to take a journey to the centre of the earth by visiting the Grotte des Cent Mammoths (the cave of a hundred mammoths) by a little electric train. This vast cave has never been closed and has been receiving visitors since the 16th Century.

How to get here

Please contact the owner for full directions.  The property is situated just a few minutes from Sarlat and you are able to walk to and from the centre although it would not be suitable for all.
