Meschers is situated on a part of the west coast of France known as the Coast of Beauty in the area known as Charente Maritime.  As well as being the sunniest region of western France with an average of over 2,500 hours of sunshine a year, and a real paradise for holiday makers with the beautiful seaside resorts of Royan (6km) and St George de Didonne (4km), it is rich in history.

Meschers itself is a charming village with 5 fine sandy beaches nearby, divided by cliffs and backed with pine trees - Plage Nonnes, Cadet, Vergnes, Ardeche and Suzac.

There are 6 restaurants within  easy walking distance, ranging from beach side cafes serving pizzas, moules and snacks etc.  to gourmet restaurants.

Residence Des Vergnes is a privately owned ,secure, gated complex. The property, an end of a terrace of four is designed for all seasons with double glazing and shutters to doors and windows. There are 115 houses on the complex, with a swimming pool and paddling pool (open late June to September) tennis, boules, table tennis and leisure areas The house is perfectly placed to enjoy all the facilities to the full.

The nearest sandy beach - Plage Vergnes – is 10 minutes, flat stroll away.

The accommodation is totally on ground level and is essentially for a family of four. It is particularly suitable for children.

• Living area is open plan
• Kitchen is fully equipped including fridge, grill, small oven, microwave, two electric hobs and other small appliances. It has all one would need by way of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils.
• Lounge area has comfortable seating and a mini hi-fi.
• Bedroom 1 has a double bed
• Bedroom 2 has bunk beds. These bedrooms are well separated from the living area.
• Shower room with hand basin and WC.

There is an electric heater for hot water and each room is fitted with a convector heater. There are duvets and pillows for the beds. Please supply your own pillow cases, sheets, duvet covers, towels and tea towels.

Outside

There is a covered front terrace with table and six chairs overlooking woodland, and a rear terrace with sun loungers and built in barbecue.

The situation of the house allows the choice of constant sunshine or shade at all times of the day.

The property has its own parking space.

About the location

Meschers has at its centre a 15th century church. Each morning in summer in the church square there is a well stocked daily market selling fresh local produce. It also has a lively port and marina with several restaurants. The leading town in the region is Royan (6km) a blossoming resort with five beaches. The main one – the Grand Conche – is backed by a crescent of fine shops and restaurants where one can sit and admire the magnificent beach, fishing port and marina. It also boasts a renowned covered market which is open every morning in summer.

St George de Didonne (3km) is a family friendly resort which has a lovely long beach backed by pines. The church square and pedestrian quarter are a must for every visitor wishing to experience the French café scene.

Within easy reach are the fascinating age-old towns of Angouleme and Saintes. They offer the visitor a wealth of architectural and cultural treasures dating back to Roman times.

The 11th century seaport of La Rochelle, a jewel with its historic harbour, fortified ramparts and elegant buildings is only 45 min by car.

Cognac is a must with visitors to this area. This is where the world's best brandy comes from. There are several distilleries to visit - Martell, Hennessy, Remy Martin to name but a few. Each has its own secret and unique process to mix the various blends of eaux-de-vie and conduct attractive tours to explain the double distilling process.

An hour's drive north brings one to a marvelous area known as the 'Venise Verte' (Green Venice), a labyrinth of peaceful canals and secluded waterways lined with willows and poplar. One of the best ways of exploring the network is to hire a flat bottomed boat for one or two hours, which you can do with or without a guide. A short cruise across the Gironde takes you to the vineyards of the Medoc where one can visit famous Chateaux such as La Tour and Lafitte. Blaye and the renowned village and vineyards of St Emilion are also close by.

By air – Cut price flights from major airports to Bordeaux and La Rochelle where car hire is readily at hand. Bordeaux is 1½ hours by car. La Rochelle is 1 hour.
