Languedoc wine region small

Languedoc reds (made from Carignan, Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache grapes) are characterized by scents of the wild herbs that grow all over the region, particularly in the higher scrub ground called the garrique.

The best quality reds are made away from the coast on the slopes of the Haut Languedoc range (try the villages of Saint-Chinian, Pic St Loup and
Faugeres). There are also some excellent red wines being made in the Minervois and Corbieres areas.
For whites, head to Picoul de Pinet south of Sete near the coast or try some of the good vin de pays from vineyards on the plain between Pezenas and Beziers.
