3 Spacious Luxury Gites & Pool minutes from Carcassonne
Domaine de Curé has a long history dating back to 1800, with extensions made in 1825. Early records show that it was once a horse-breeding estate before becoming a winery sometime in the late 1800s. And even though wine is no longer produced at the domaine itself, the neighboring farmers continue to grow and pick the grapes in the surrounding vineyards that were once a part of the estate to make the regional Cabardes wine.
Today, part of the building, set in a one hectare estate rich with numerous species of trees, has been entirely renovated into 3 spacious gîtes (self-catering holiday homes) of the highest standards. A private swimming pool provides views of vineyards and the Pyrenees Mountains.
The quality of furnishings and fittings is of the highest standard thus providing you with every comfort for your stay with us.
The property lies in the middle of vineyards and is situated 1km from the village of Conques-sur-Orbiel and 10 kms north of Carcassonne in the Aude region of Languedoc Roussillon.

Our largest gîte at 110m2 has two bedrooms and a second upstairs lounge. Sleeps four in 2 bedrooms, with possibility for a fifth person on a separate sofa bed. 2 other gites: La Caleche (1 bedroom, sleeps 2); La Forge (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4)
Ground Floor:
- Living and dining rooms open area is separated from the kitchen. This comfortably furnished area includes a Norwegian Jotul wood-burning stove. And, as in all our gîtes, la Source comes with satellite television and region-free DVD and CD players.
- Kitchen itself includes a refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine.
Upstairs:
- Two bedrooms, each furnished with double size beds. An additional lounge area has a sofa bed.
- Large bathroom is doused with natural light and includes a spacious 'douche a l’italienne' and 2 washbasins.
- Separate toilet.
Outside:
- Terrace with large table and chairs and access to barbecue area.
Domaine de Curé is located in the middle of the vineyards outside the village of Conques-Sur-Orbiel which is only 10 kms to the north of the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne along with the famous 17th century Canal du Midi (both UNESCO heritage sites). Within Conques-Sur-Orbiel you can find both a café and a restaurant together with a selection of local shops which include a boulangerie, a couple of hairdressers, a café, restaurant and a pharmacy. A supermarket, gas station and new movie complex are within a 5 minute drive.
The Cité of Carcassonne - the Count's Castle (12th-13th centuries) is whthin the medieval Cité which has double perimeter walls and 52 towers. St Nazaire basilica is built in Romanesque and gothic styles. On the left bank of the Aude river, the Lower Town (13th century) is worth a visit. Fireworks 14 July. Tournaments (Medieval Pageantry) from 3 July to 29 August.
Canal du Midi - undertaken by Pierre-Paul Riquet in the 17th century to link the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, it crosses the Aude from West to East over a distance of more than 100 kms. House boating holidays is popular from the main towns on the Canal: Castelnaudary, Bram, Carcassonne, Trèbes, Homps, Le Somail, Argens-Minervois, Ginestas, Narbonne. Passenger boat: 1 hour, 2 hours, half day on the Canal departing from Castelnaudary, Bram, Carcassonne, Trèbes, Homps, Le Somail, Narbonne. You can also hire bikes along the canal.
Narbonne - Roman horreum or warehouse: Vast underground storerooms of perishable goods. The Horreum is the only surviving Roman remains in Narbonne open to the public (built 1st cent. BC) Archibishop's Palace : Museum of Art and History and Archeological Museum. Museums occupying the former Archibishop's Palace built in the 12th - 14th centuries. The collections are made up of finds recovered from digs in the Aude département.
Fontfroide Abbey - founded at the end of the 11th century by the Benedictines, it immediately became very prosperous. Affiliated to the Cistercian order in 1145, it was a bastion of religious orthodoxy during the period of the crusade against the Albigensian heretics.

How to get to La Source - Domaine Cure
By Car:
Leave the main A61 / E90 at either junction 23 or 24 at Carcassonne, from there head for the D620 which will lead you past the village of Conques-Sur-Orbiel.
By Air:
The nearest airport is Carcassonne airport which is only 10 kms away. Carcassonne is well served by Ryanair. There are other airports that are within a relatively easy drive of Conques-Sur-Orbiel, they are: Toulouse, Perpignan, Montpellier, and Beziers.
By Train:
The French Railways (SNCF) has many trains coming to Carcassonne directly through or from Toulouse in the west or Narbonne

Great location, relaxing environment close to Carcasonne. The house is a middle terrace barn conversion with shared outdoor facilities including pool and barbeque. Hosts on site and helpful.

We enjoyed two weeks in La Source. It is a spacious gite with all amenities; two spacious bedrooms with plenty of storage space, a nice bathroom with good shower and double sink, separate toilet. The living room and kitchen are also spacious. And everything is very tastefully decorated and converted with attention. In front of the cottage you can eat outside and there is also a barbecue you can use. Swimming pool we also often splashed in :-) Jean-Noel and Agathe are very hospitable and are always in for a nice chat. The wines were also very tasty! The area around the Domaine is beautiful, it is surrounded by vineyards. Bakery is a 3-minute drive away and many beautiful villages and other sightseeing spots can be reached within an hour. We also drove to the beach, towards Gruissan (also about an hour's drive away). Lovely wide beach and nice village. In short, go and discover Domaine La Cure for yourself, we would love to go back!

We enjoyed two weeks at La Source in May/June. It was such a haven of tranquility with the trees, the birdsong and the surrounding countryside and vineyards. However we were still ideally situated to get to Carcassonne and able to easily get to the airport when a friend and our daughter joined us at different times during our stay. Our hosts Jean-Noël and Agathe were fantastic with excellent suggestions on places to visit and helped us book restaurants when needed. There was so much to see in the area but we most enjoyed just being at Domaine de Cure relaxing in the garden and the pool environment and then barbecuing in the evening- Perfect! Sitting waiting for my flight home after an amazing week at Domaine de Cure!! Jean-Noël & Agathe were such kind and generous hosts and have created a haven filled with bird song, amazingly comfortable and well equipped accommodation and a glorious pool area.

From the initial contact via a booking site (although Domaine de Curé can be contacted directly for bookings, we now know) right through to the last day of our stay, communication with Jean-Noël and Agathe was warm, engaging and very efficient.
The village of Conques-sur-Orbiel resembles a maze, with lots of one-way streets and without the very helpful directions we had received before setting off, it would have taken us a lot longer to reach Domanie de Curé. We appreciated that all the more since we had had a very early start that day, with a 6.30 a.m. flight from Edinburgh to Carcassonne.
I agree wholeheartedly with all the other glowing reviews. Our hosts were so helpful and welcoming, and just lovely to talk to. The location is stunning, the gîte (La Source) beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, very spacious and more than adequately furnished. One other reviewer mentioned personal touches and we* (read: my husband - he is the one with an eye for art) particularly noted and liked the beautiful flower that Agathe had placed in the upstairs sitting room.
A little bit more about the location: to the front of the property is a large garden with mature trees, seating areas that offer some shade and a guest barbeque. To the side is another large garden with beautiful trees and seating areas and a swimming pool with sun loungers and a sun shelter. A great place to enjoy some peace and quiet. To the rear is an area for drying clothes and covered parking.
We had hired e-bikes for the week with the help of Jean-Noël. These were delivered and collected - a great service. Cycling on the minor roads in the area is very enjoyable and safe and also a great way of admiring the scenery.
Domaine de Curé is a great base for sight-seeing, cycling, walking and for just having a quiet time in, as mentioned before, a very warm and welcoming. environment.

We found out about the Domaine de Curé through a school connection of one of our sons and chose it to host a family reunion. The location was perfect: close enough to Conque sur Orbeil and Vilagly for fresh croissants etc., close enough to the Carrefour in Carcassonne for stocking up and close enough to some fine mountain biking to justify renting bikes for everybody. We took all three gîtes and had them at capacity. The accommodation was just perfect! Clean, neat, calm, spacious, nicely appointed and efficient. We prepared most meals "chez nous" but found several excellent restaurants in the area with some guidance from Jean Nöel & Agathe. We greatly enjoyed the pool and participated with some abandon in reducing Jean Nöel's stock of local wines he manages to have available at most reasonable prices. We had a special bond with Jean Nöel and Agathe by the end of the week and enjoyed their company at several of our merguez cook-outs.

My wife and I spent 2 great weeks with our wonderful hosts, Agathe and Jean-Noel. One of the weeks we had another couple staying with us. The apartment, La Source, was LARGE and fully decorated and set up for a nice stay. Bedrooms were large, Bathroom (with separate toilet) also large. Kitchen fully equipped and has everything you need to make any meal. Our hosts were perfect, they live on property and are available for all your needs but never intrusive. We enjoyed chatting with them and a few evenings sharing a glass of wine before dinner! Another bonus is that Jean-Noel has a wide range of local wines for sale at very competitive prices. This is one of the best Gites we have stayed in and, if ever in the area again, will stay at this wonderful place.

Lovely clean gite with gorgeous views from the pool. Our hosts were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The area has lots to see and do including lots of castles, beautiful hilltop villages and of course Carcassonne itself.

Un gîte superbe, spacieux, bien entretenu, propre,... nous attends à notre arrivée. L'endroit est magnifique. Et en cas de chaleur (ou pas pour les courageux), un chouette coin piscine est là pour satisfaire tous les goûts: au soleil ou à l'ombre, dans l'eau ou sur les transats, ce coin farniente accueille petits et grands pour un moment de détente après une journée de visite dans les alentours, par exemple.
N'oublions surtout pas que dès que les deux roues de la voiture sont sur le domaine, nous sommes accueillis par des propriétaires extraordinaires qui n'hésitent pas à venir nous parler pendant tous le séjour. Très sociables et très gentils, nous ne les oublions pas car c'est grâce à eux que nous avons passé un superbe séjour dans la région de Carcassonne!

Delightful stay in a beautiful gite and well looked after by Jean-Noel and Agathe who proved to be helpful, friendly and informative. They've clearly worked hard to create a terrific location - peaceful but well positioned for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. The gite was well equipped, spacious and thoughtfully planned out. The whole experience was a complete pleasure and we were so fortunate to have had the benefit of early autumn colours but hot and sunny days.

As a family of four, which included our two girls aged 12 and 3, we spent two very relaxing and enjoyable weeks at Domaine de Cure in July 2015. Our hosts Jean-Noel and Agathe welcomed us on our arrival and went through the basic rules and requirements for our stay, this was nothing too excessive but ensured respect was provided to all guests and the accommodation. The gite was well equipped, clean and spacious providing everything we needed for our two week holiday. The gardens and pool provided adequate space for us to relax without being overly intrusive to our neighbours. The location of Domaine de Cure was excellent, remotely quiet enough but only a short drive to Carcassonne and some wonderful nearby villages. We traveled also to the beaches at Narbonne which was only a 45 min drive, La Franqui beach was particularly pleasant. Our hosts were always on hand to offer advice on excursions, local restaurants and nearby shopping, We also took advantage of Jean-Noel's locally sourced wine which in general we found to be very good. We would have no hesitation in staying here again.

We stayed at Domaine de Cure for a week as a couple with an 8-month-old baby. Firstly, the help and assistance offered by our hosts were brilliant. We needed to ship out some specialist baby food and it was made so easy by them, even collecting for us from the local delivery depot. The property is in a beautiful and quiet setting, so lots of privacy but only 10 minutes drive to shops for bread/butcher and a few minutes more to the larger Carrefour on the edge of Carcassone. Our Gite was very comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable with washing machine, dishwasher and plenty of quality kitchen stuff to make everything seem home from home. There is a high-quality barbecue that we used every night. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was just perfect. The area has a nearly unlimited choice of things to do and with easy access to the Auto-Route, we were able to go out and about every day and see everything we wanted. If you choose to stay at home, there is a lovely pool and sunbathing area including a covered area which is great for shade with a raised floor. Our biggest vote of thanks is left for the owners and hosts, Jean-Noel and Agathe. They work tirelessly to make sure you enjoy your stay and are genuinely lovely people who immerse themselves in this beautiful property that they created and renovated themselves. We would really recommend this property as a high-quality option for the Carcassonne/Languedoc area. Michael & Lucy

We had a wonderful holiday in Carcassonne, staying at Domaine de Curé. The gite (La Source) was very comfortable with good attention to detail, such as having plenty of crockery and hanging space for wet towels! The surroundings are beautiful with amazing views from the pool area. Jean-Noël & Agathe were great hosts; they were always happy to make reservations, and kept us well supplied with excellent wine!

We have stayed in five-star accommodations all over the world, but we have never enjoyed ourselves anywhere as much as we did at Domaine de Cure! Upon arriving, we were given an incredibly warm welcome by the owners, Jean-Noel and Agathe. Domaine de Cure is a gorgeous picturesque petite-chateau nestled among beautiful vineyards with stunning views of the Pyrenees Mountains. It is an absolutely peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Carcassonne but close to everything. Our two-bedroom Gite was impeccably clean, bright and cheery! It was truly wonderful to be able to return to our Gite after a busy day of sightseeing and cook dinner while relaxing with other guests and the owners while sipping on a glass of wine! The owners went out of their way to ensure that our stay there was a memorable one! We can't wait to return to Domaine de Cure as it was so fabulous in every way!!

We arrived and were pleasantly surprised Domaine de Cure was as described on the website, clean, modern and attractive. The owners were friendly and provided us with a good 'feeling' for the area, a friendly service for all our needs and ready to assist and advise on all matters both practical, (food shopping etc) and details of places/area's that we could visit. The property itself was good quality and in a really nice, quiet location. The 'pool' and surrounding area was a well sited 'sun spot' and we spent much time in and around the pool. Generally a great holiday for my family, I am happy to recommend Domaine de Cure to friends, family and all who read this review. We will certainly return in the future. - Rental periods are per week and run from Saturday 4:00 p.m. through the following Saturday 10:00 a.m. A non-refundable deposit of 30% of the total rental sum is required to guarantee your reservation with the balance due a minimum 8 weeks before arrival. Furthers details will be communicated during the booking process.
- Outside of the season or wherever possible we shall be pleased to discuss alternate start dates and/or short stays but in principle our rentals are 4-7 nights minimum. Extra heating/electricity charges may apply in low season.
