Carennac (Lot)
Carennac - a fairy-tale Clunisien village set on the banks of the River Dordogne, overlooking the romantic isle de Calypso. In summer a popular, colourful, but restful holiday location close to many holiday amenities in the heart of wonderful walking countryside.
Carennac is quite rightly nominated one of the most beautiful villages in France. Its tiny streets with their ancient houses cluster round the wonderful St Peter's church - renowned for its important tympanum - which formed the focus of the village for centuries. Everything here is compace and within easy close distance.
In Summer the streets are festooned with colourful window-boxes and every turn reveals thrilling glimpses of orchards, rose-gardens and overhanging balconies. The Abbey cloisters are exceptional. The Museum of the Dordogne and the local Office de Tourisme are located within the Abbey walls
The village has a delightful small hotel - The Fenelon - with swimming pool available for terrace bar clients, and two restaurants; the Creperie and la Petite Vigne. It also has a small grocer's shop.
