Cassagnes (Lot)
Cassagnes is a small, picturesque, rural village with a beautiful 12th century church, located in south west France about 10km north of the Lot river (Puy L'Eveque) and 40km south of the Dordogne river. It is set in the middle of rolling hills covered with mostly oak and chestnut trees. There is a bar-restaurant at the camping area near the local lake (plan d'eau)The oak and chestnut wooded hills provide lovely scenery and the backdrop to many outdoor activities such as horse riding, walking, cycling, painting, star gazing, fishing etc.
The village has its annual fete on the first weekend in July. The large fishing lake (The Plan d'Eau) has a well established campsite with a bar/restaurant opposite. The whole lake area has recently been substantially upgraded to provide better facilities for fishing and picknicking.
There are walking tracks (randonnée) all around the village and many of these are also used by cyclists (VTT). The Grand Randonnée national walking trail passes close to the village (and our property), and some of the walks take in the Lavoirs, the old stone washing areas, fed by natural sources.
The closest airport to Cassagnes is Bergerac Airport (58 km), and in the surrounding area are Toulouse Airport (103 km), Rodez Airport (107 km), or Limoges Airport (146 km).
Tourism destinations close to the village include the historic Cahors (a wine region), Chateau de Bonaguil (great medieval castle you can clamber about), Rocamdour, Sarlat, Gouffre de Padirac, St Cyr le Popie, boat trips and canoeing on the Lot (10 minutes away), Aqualand Water Park - Bassin D'Arcachon (8 km), Parc-en-Ciel at Villereal (20 km), Dordogne River Boat trips (30 km), and La Roque Gageac (30 km).
