Founded in 1070 near Nice, Colomars (also known as Colmars-les-Alpes) is a perched village situated at the conflence of the Verdon and Lance rivers, at an altitude of 1250 metres. The countryside surrounding is full of vineyards and olive trees. The oil of Colomars has won many awards and together with olive paste and tapenade enjoys the AOC Olive de Nice label. The former fortification of Fort Casal built in 1888 has a panoramic view of the Pre-Alps to the Mediterranean Sea and has also become an area for events and festivities.
Situated amongst wooded hills Colmar has wonderful views. Signposts from the town lead to the Cascade de la Lance, a waterfall situated about 30 minutes walk away.
