Sollies Ville (Var)
A medieval village with a 12th century church, formerly a part of the castle that hosted the Corbin family, count of Provence. There is little left of the castle that looked over the valley in a good defencive position. The church organ is 500 years old and has been fully restored; Concerts are given in the church almost every Sunday during the summer ( organ or chamber music). In the village there is a museum dedicated to the Provence traditional clothing. In December this museum hosts a Santon exhibition (small earthenware figures painted and decorated for the Christmas crib).
Sollies Ville is a pleasant to stop for an evening drink on the plaza and the two restaurants there offer decent food at reasonable prices. A third restaurant down below offers good food and a view over the valley. During the summer, concerts and shows are given on the plaza, always free of charge. See the signs for the dates.
One can walk in the streets of the medieval village and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of a Provence village. Next to the church, a museum has been dedicated to the French writer and poet Jean Aicard. (probably not familiar to the British tourist).
