DouarnenezDouarnenez

Douarnenez is a fishing village in Brittany located 25km to the Northwest of Quimper in the Finistere department. Although the fishing industry has been in decline for many years it remains a major fishing port, however one of the town's ports three ports, Port-Rhu has been turned, (at vast expense), into a living maritime museum. Here you can see a collection of more than 200 old ships and boats, many of which have been restored.

The nearby beach Plage de Ris is good for surfing whilst families can enjoy the nearby Plage des Sables Blancs beach where you can hire Kayaks and go windsurfing.

Legend has it that the mythical Breton city of Ys is buried beneath the waves in the bay of Douarnenez and that the ghost of a drowned Princess, Princess Dahut haunts the shores in the form of a mermaid.
