Find Holiday accommodation in France

I’ve just got back from a trip to the Doubs in the Franche-Comté, our featured region this month. We – myself and my husband and our daughters aged 3 and 5 - loved every minute of our holiday. This area has so much to offer during the summer and winter and is particularly great for children. I can definitely recommend it!

We left on a Friday morning and travelled with our car by DFDS from Dover to Calais, then stopped overnight at Nigloland adventure park, 45 km from Troyes. The hotel there was great for the children. On Saturday we spent about three quarters of the day in Nigloland and the girls just loved its rides and shows, all set in a natural environment.

Then on to our holiday rental home, Gite Sous-les-Roches at Villers Le Lac, right by the River Doubs. This three bedroom house, featured on French Connections, is excellent - really comfortable. It has everything you need, including a beautiful modern kitchen and bathroom and, perhaps best of all, a massive veranda with panoramic views of mind-blowing scenery.

In fact, everywhere in the Doubs the scenery is mind blowing, with lots of greenery, space and wonderful views. We even managed to go to Neuchâtel in Switzerland, which was just 15 minutes away from where we were staying.

Every day we managed to do some activities - visiting a waterfall, summer sledging, taking a chair lift, walks in gorgeous countryside and adventure parks for the children. The one I would recommend is “Le parc de Loisirs Les Campaines”, which has something for children of all ages and adults. Both our accommodation and activities were recommended by the Doubs Tourist Board.

For the return journey we left on the Friday afternoon, stopped over in an Ibis in Troyes (great hotel) then Saturday travelled to Calais to get our ferry crossing. The journey all together took about 8 hours and was so easy as most of it was on the Motorway. One of the great things we bought this year was a Sanef Tolling Tag. This really saved us time as you do not need to queue at the toll, so I would recommend it if you travel to France.
