Recognised for being one of the prettiest villages in France, Aubeterre sur Dronne offers narrow winding streets and ancient buildings to explore, several cafes and good restaurants. Large car park next to the Information Bureau.
One of the most impressive sights in Aubeterre is the monolithic church of Saint Jean, which is situated underground of a cliff that hangs over the river Dronne. The church is carved entirely out of the rock and at its highest point measures 20m.
Other interesting historical sites include St Jacques Church, located at the top of the village. Partially destroyed by war in 1562, the church was later rebuilt in the 17th century. It boasts a stunning 12th century Romanesque façade that is decorated with finely sculpted arches.
