Douzillac (Dordogne)
Douzillac is a sleepy small hill-top village in the Dordogne with a basic Bar, and Post Office.
Douzillac is an old village based around the school, church and medieval buildings at the top of the hill. Over the years several small hamlets along the bottom of the hill have been incorporated into the settlement. There is a Bar and a Post Office but not much else. Good views along the valley from the Mairie.
If you visit at the end of August, then the annual village fete is worth a visit. It takes place on the fourth w/e (officially the w/end after St Barthelemy's day). There is a small funfair with a very scary Chair-o-plane, didgems and sideshows (3 days), a communal meal and dance (Fri); clay pigeon shoot - usually, disco (Sat); big cycle race, antique/boot sale, and a hot air balloon ascent. The event ends with a torchlit procession down the hill, often led by a local band, to the football ground where there is a good firework display (Sunday).
