Lannion (Cotes d'Armor Brittany)
Nested in the peaceful valley of Léguer, between the côte de Granit Rose and the côte des Bruyères, Lannion is the second largest town in the Côtes-d’Armor.
Lannion is an old, historic town located on the estuary of the River Léguer and its hilltop position gives it stunning panoramic views.
It has a wonderful mediaeval sector and in which you will find pretty squares, secret chapels with ancient frescoes and half-timbered houses. There are also numerous cafés and bars so you can stop for a coffee or something stronger as you wander around.
In addition to admiring the half-timbered houses around the place de Général-Leclerc and along rue des Chapeliers, it's well worth climbing from the town up the 142 granite steps which lead to the twelfth-century Templar Église de Brélévenez. Three hundred years later a granite bell tower was added, and the views from its terrace are excellent. As mentioned the church is a Templar church which will be of interest if you are a fan of the Da Vinci code.
If you are a shopaholic then make for the modern part of town, where there are some excellent and elegant shops to tempt you!
Lannion has plenty of places to eat and you will find that the seafood is as fresh as it is excellent. If you enjoy a good meal out you will be spoiled by the choice of restaurants here.
Market day is Thursday. Located at the Quai d'Aiguillon from morning till evening and the Place du Général Leclerc in the morning only. Arts and crafts, local produce, fabrics, rugs, textiles, household linen and kitchen utensils are available.
