Charming, Peaceful Converted Cottage with Annexe
Le Haut Provost is a small hamlet one and a half kilometres from Caden, a picturesque small French town set out around the church. The property comprises two converted barns having all modern facilities, including broadband internet (never guaranteed) and sleeps 4 (+2 on sofabed on mezzanine - note, no privacy) in the Main House and 2+2 in the Annexe (extra charge of €100). It is in a quiet country lane making it very safe for children &/or pets. There is a pretty, south-facing private enclosed garden which has stunning views across open countryside.
The area is beautiful for walking - just 1 minute from the house there are several pathways into the woods. If you have bikes, do bring them as it is a great way of getting about and exploring a little further afield.
The property is ideally situated to explore the area; it is 10 minutes from the medieval town of Rochefort-en-Terre and 15 minutes from the river port of La Roche Bernard. It is 30 minutes drive to several lovely sandy beaches, with plenty of rockpools, and a similar distance from the beautiful town of Vannes and the rest of the Golfe de Morbihan. Further afield, there is the walled town of Guerande, the trendy resort of La Baule and the busy cities of Nantes and Rennes.
The Main House
- Vaulted spacious sitting and dining room - Open fire, (logs supplied), exposed beams, sofa, easy chairs and plenty of English books. There is a TV, DVD and hifi (socket for MP3) and broadband Internet connection. Enormous windows with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside open onto a clematis & vine-covered pergola with tiled garden table and seating. Barbecue available.
- Family Bathroom - Spacious with double washbasins and walk-in shower.
- Separate toilet
- Kitchen very well-equipped with all mod cons. Lovely exposed pointed stone wall, enormous beams.
- Stairs lead up to a mezzanine with sofabed, child's z-bed, books and board games and a gallery passage to the second bedroom.
- Master Bedroom with king-size double bed and seating area.
- Second bedroom with twin beds.
- Upstairs toilet and washbasin.
Annexe Cottage - A small self-contained detached cottage, situated at the bottom of the garden also with stunning views across open countryside. Please note that an extra charge of £100 is required to cover the extra linen and cleaning. This is the ideal teenage 'pad'. It is not available as a separate rental.
- Downstairs – Tiled terracotta floor, corner sofabed, table, hifi, exposed stone walls, and large oak beam. Basic kitchen area with microwave. Shower Room with toilet and washbasin.
- Upstairs - Mezzanine with twin beds.
Both cottages are furnished to a high standard. There is also a selection of garden furniture and some outside games. Linen and towels are supplied (not beach towels). There is also a travel cot although the property is not suitable for toddlers due to the stairs.
Large log fire
Set in the peaceful Southern Morbihan countryside, the house is ideally situated to explore the area; it is half an hour’s drive to several lovely sandy beaches, with plenty of rockpools, and a similar distance from the beautiful town of Vannes and the rest of the Golfe de Morbihan (sailing heaven).
Closer to home Le Haut Provost is 10 minutes from the stunning medieval town of Rochefort en Terre (a great place to eat out) and about 20 minutes from the picturesque river port of La Roche Bernard with its harbour, seafood restaurants and bars. There are also several cycle-routes close by. The pretty town of Redon (10 mins) has a good shopping centre, hypermarket and train station with a 2 and a half hour service to Paris.
Further afield, there is the walled town of Guerande, the trendy resort of La Baule and the busy city of Nantes all about an hour away.
We do hope that you enjoy staying at Le Haut Provost - it is perfect for a quiet chill-out holiday; after a day on the beach, or a long bike ride, it is wonderful to come back to a quiet retreat away from the holiday-hubub. Perhaps wake up late the next day, coffee and croissants, a walk in the forest, wine with lunch, siesta, lie in the sunshine and read a book - fabulous!
- Walk or mountain bike straight from the house down a short grassy path to the stream and on into the beautiful woods.
- Spend the day at one of the beaches – Penn Lann (Billiers), Damgan, Plage de la Mine D’Or (Pénestin).
- Bike around the surrounding country lanes or along one of the ‘voies vertes’ cycle paths.
- Take a boat trip along the river Vilaine or a boat trip out to sea from Vannes.
- Charter a yacht for a day from Arzon (Port de Crouesty) or Arradon.
- Try out the nine-hole golf course at Caden – or for serious golfers, the excellent course at La Bretesche (25mins).
- Explore the Legend of King Arthur in and around the Forêt de Brocéliande.
- Visit the Aquarium and the Butterfly park in Vannes.
- Go for a walk in the Parc Préhistorique near Malansac.
- Walk around Rochefort-en-Terre and have lunch at the Crêperie.
- Go to the swimming pool in Redon.
- Hire a little boat for the day and go along the Nantes-Brest Canal.
- Visit the local chateaux.
- Go to La Baule for lunch.
- Have a day out in the beautiful city of Rennes.
- Don't forget your bikes as it is great biking country.
- Go to the beach.
