Luxury Family Holiday Villa with Exclusive Pool
Single storey and offering easy access, this lovely south facing villa enjoys marvellous views of the rolling Dordogne countryside. When the sun is too hot, the 20 sq/m chestnut floored and covered terrace provides a fantastic, shady place to eat and enjoy the views and garden to the front of the property.
Nestled in a small rural hamlet just 2.5 km from the glorious village of Jumilhac le Grand, where the famous 12th Century chateau dominates the main square and set in its own hedged and manicured grounds of 1/4 acre, the villa is spacious, bright and airy.
Home from home, Les Vignes du Bac promises you a relaxing, easy-living holiday in the heart of an authentic and unspoiled part of France. If you can tear yourself away from cooling off in the pool, you will be able to explore the lovely local countryside, towns and villages, and to enjoy activities ranging from rambling, fishing and horse riding to tennis and golf. Children have loads of space to play at home, the pool is safely fenced and there is a very large sandpit!
If (unlikely as it may be) it's a rainy day, you can relax in front of a film (or your favourite BBC/ITV programme) on the 37" plasma screen TV with full surround sound.
Don't miss out on the excellent local restaurants (including Auberge de Combiers at Saint Paul la Roche, Les Voyageurs at La Coquille and Le Cheval Blanc and La Tour Blanche at Saint Yrieix la Perche).
Feedback we have received on the villa:
"Perfect family holiday home - spot on" (Rosina Kelly, County Kilkenny)
The house and pool were beautiful and clean. The shutters were great for getting our baby to sleep. The house is really lovely and you have decorated it beautifully - it's a real credit to you" (Terry Nolan, Dumfries and Galloway)

There are two fridges (under counter size) in the kitchen, and two washing machines in the utility room.
Distinguishing features of the landscape are green pastures with Limousin cows interspersed with woods, orchards, rivers and lakes. In the rivers and lakes one can fish for trout as well as pike, perch and other coarse species. The impressive 13th Century castle of Jumilhac is part of the Richard the Lionheart Route together with other neighbouring castles (Nexon, Coussac-Bonneval and Chalus). Nearby larger towns are Limoges, Brantome and Perigueux, all with plenty of historical interest.
The villa is about a 50 minute drive from Limoges, the home of fine porcelain. It is also about an hour’s drive from prehistoric caves to the South and well situated for visiting many famous chateaux and other places of interest. Driving southwards the landscape becomes more mediterranean in its climate and vegetation and it is fun to drive along the many picturesque river valleys.
At Ladignac le Long and Boussiere Galant and near Saint Yrieix there are lakes for swimming and boating with lifeguards and small beaches that are ideal for children within 10-20 kilometres.
Festivals, fetes and fireworks are held most weekends in one or more of the region’s towns and villages throughout the summer.
The nearest boulangerie x2, cafe, small supermarket, bar, restaurant, butcher, pharmacie and newsagent are in Jumilhac Le Grand (2.5 kilometres away). There are large supermarkets at the nearest town Saint Yrieix (8 kilometres away), also at Chalus (15 kilometres) and Nexon (24 kilometres).
Markets: weekly at Thiviers on Saturdays, at Brantome on Fridays, at Perigueux on Wednesdays, Piegut Pluvier on Wednesdays; at Tocane Saint Apre on Mondays; every 2nd and 4th Friday in the month at Saint Yrieix, and in summer other markets and night markets also.
There are plenty of restaurants at Saint Yrieix, the best local gourmet restaurant is Les Voyageurs at La Coquille, about 8km away.
Walks in the lovely countryside around the villa; tennis at Jumilhac and Thiviers; canoeing and walks at picturesque Brantome on the river Dronne (45 minute drive); for horse lovers, horse riding at Jumilhac and St Yrieix and visits to the stud at Pompadour (30 minute drive - making sure to stop at Segur le Chateau, one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" on the way); fishing - permits for local lakes available at Jumilhac; Rouffiac lake and activity centre (25 minute drive); further afield - skiing at Mont Dore near Clermont Ferrand (a 2 hour drive to skiing here in Winter and walking and sight-seeing in Summer stopping at a fantastic cheese centre shop on the way); Skate Board / Roller Park at Jumilhac; Caves: La Grotte de Villars; Gardens: Les Jardins du Manoir d’Eyrignac (open every day all day in Summer) and Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, both near Sarlat and lovely for a day out.
To the West there is the Parc Naturel Regional Perigord - Limousin with its pathways for rambling or mountain biking and where (even when driving) you can come upon wildlife such as hares, wild boar, deer, otters, pine martens, buzzard and kite.

Just a back from a week spent in Les Vignes du Bac with 3 generations of my family. We all agree we had a lovely stay in the well equipped, spacious house. The pool is a good size and was lovely and clean and we made great use of it during our very sunny week there. You do need a car - the local village is 2.5 km away which is walkable for the morning croissants and baguettes, but the less mobile might struggle with the uphill walk home. There are large supermarkets within 10 minutes drive. We also drove out to the swimming lake at Rouffiac and to Brantome where we canoed. We would recommend both and parking was free at both which was a lovely surprise. We also enjoyed the guided tour (in English) of the chateau in the village. We drove down from Calais - drive time about 8 hours plus stops, but you can get flights into Limoges and hire a car there. Melanie and Stuart were both very helpful before and during our stay. We would happily return to Les Vignes du Bac. Thank you for having us Sarah & familyGuest rating:
We stayed in Les Vignes Du Bac for two weeks and we had a wonderful holiday. Two Grandparents, two adults and two children. The house is large and airy. The kitchen is large and adequate cooking facilities. The sitting room is very comfortable and TV has all the channels - altho' most of the time was spent outside or in the pool which was super, - well kept and clean. The garden is large and the children loved it. Everything was clean including the towels and bedding. There is a very large verandah where most of our meals were enjoyed. Breakfast in the morning sunlight and in the evening watching the sun go down We have no problem in recommending this house. Over the past fifteen years I have stayed in many holiday houses (some dreadful and some good) Les Vignes Du Bac is GOOD !!Guest rating:
From the start to finish this was a fabulous experiance. Melanie was brilliant with all our questions a queries. It was the first trip with our Granddaughter so we needed to make sure we crossed all the T's etc. She was a delight to deal with. When we arrived we were surprised at the size of the property and surrounding gardens. The pool area is a perfect size for a small family and secluded behind bushes, plus fenced off for saftey. the town is probably a 20-30 min walk but a lovely walk to pick up the bread for the morning and nearly one road straight to the Chateau and square. I tended to walk there with my G/D and the family join me with the car for a coffee and then we would drive back. Has all you could need but for those that want more than a quiet and relaxing holiday you will need to get in the car. Overall a fantastic place, not the ritz but very clean, a great size, plenty of garden space, BBQ, two fridges, in our case one for BEER and white wine, the other for food. I would recomend and great value for money.Guest rating:
