Le Manoir - Cottage & Gite in 4 Acre Grounds of a 350 year Old Manor House
Le Manoir offers a stunning 3 Bedroomed Cottage & a lovely 2 bedroomed Gite for rent in its spacious 4 acre grounds. We are situated in sunny Charente Maritime amidst a wealth of vineyards, sunflowers and rolling countryside, neighbouring historic towns nearby like Jonzac, Pons and Montendre offer typical French market town life.
The traditional buildings on the site create a beautiful setting for a relaxing holiday. The uninhabited chateau 500m down the lane adds an inspiring backdrop and with WIFI Broadband Internet, you can stay in touch and share your experiences with family & friends.
Holidaying at Le Manoir is all about having loads of family things to do in the safe environment of our huge grounds, we frequently hear from parents that they were suprised that they actually had some relaxation themselves and found they needed to go and find what the kids were doing when they had finished their reading and wanted some interaction. Le Manoir tries to turn the "Mum I'm bored" holiday on its head.
But when you are ready to explore the area, just hop in the car for a huge variety of fun, exploring and sight-seeing. We are only 30 minutes from the fabulous family friendly golden atlantic beaches at Royan and only 15 minutes from the quaint fishing ports on the massive Gironde estuary. The area is steeped in history and has a range of good quality family tourist attractions, several are world class.
The accommodation is very well equipped including antique furniture, dishwashers, satellite TVs and WIFI broadband. Le Manoir provides an ideal base for a family holiday and for exploring the South of France. The 4 acre grounds offer plenty of space to relax and unwind and with lots to keep the children (and adults!) entertained.
Besides the 10m by 5m beautiful saltwater pool, both the Cottage & the Gite have their own large patios with big barbecues and hardwood table and chairs so you can enjoy outdoor living in the sunny weather to the full.
The Gite has all rooms on the ground floor and has original beams on show in some rooms. The accommodation comprises:

The local lanes are a delight for a quiet stroll or a family cycle ride when you can spot lots of interesting wildlife including huge birds of prey circling the woodland. When you are bored with watching the sun go down over your BBQ, there are plenty of good restaurants within a short drive.
There are a wealth of pretty villages and fishing harbours to be explored on the nearby massive Gironde Estuary, 15 minutes by car. There are cycling paths and fishing along much of the estuary shore. The fabulous golden family-friendly beaches at Royan and St Georges are little more than half an hour away. You have a choice of sophisticated and safe town beaches, cornish coves with superb rock pools and completely wild Atlantic surf. If you bring a fishing rod you could have some really fresh fish for the BBQ!
Royan, St Georges and Meschers offer everything you would expect from good seaside resorts. There is a world class zoo just north of Royan at La Palmyre.
There are a wide range of tourist attractions for adults and children for example, the aquarium at La Rochelle is superb, you can become a prehistoric man and try to spear a wild boar at the Paleosite near Saintes, you can go boating on the river Charente or the sea at Royan, there are caves to explore and loads of the usual seaside entertainments like mini-golf. We have a superb Go-Kart track and paint-balling less than 5 minutes by car.
You will see from our guest book that other guests have enjoyed such things as, the eating in the street night market, kayaking with some exciting white water flumes, Gardens of the World by electric boat and jet ski.
There is so much to explore and the history is extraordinarily rich. The nearby town of Saintes offers Roman arches, amphitheatre and churches to explore and a plethora of chateaux and restaurants are waiting to be discovered. Jonzac (10 minutes) has a lovely Chateau and historic walks through the medeival walled town.
Wide choice of lovely restaurants in old market towns, in the country, at fishing harbours, overlooking the sea or near to beaches.
Cognac, Rochefort and Ile D’oleron are all within easy driving distance, with La Rochelle and Ile de Rey further up the coast. Cognac has some surprisingly entertaining visits at the headquarters of brands like Remy Martin.
Heading south, Arcachon with it’s famous Pyla sand dune and beaches are a must to visit and Bordeaux offers chic French city life.
The wildlife of the area is unbelievable - a tribute to the traditional farming methods in use. You will see lots of very large birds of prey as you drive around. There are some very good nature reserves with english speaking guides.
- There are a wide variety of activities for all ages within easy reach of Le Manoir for example:
- 10 pin bowling at Saintes and Meschers, both 30 mins
- Quad bikes - an excellent forest track with exciting dips and climbs and bridges. 35 mins Royan

Idyllic Family Holiday Accommodation We stayed in the smaller of the two cottages, with our friends being in the larger one. We had the most incredible stay. Tony our host, was very attentive and looked out for our every need with a thorough induction on arrival. His knowledge of the local area is outstanding and he had many great tips for day trips. The pool is immaculately kept and many joyful hours were spent there. The rope swing was also a huge hit with the children. We explored the local country and lanes and villages on the bikes which felt safe. We also felt safe with regards to the Covid-precautions in place with regards to cleaning etc.
Guest rating:
Great welcome from Tony. We had a lovely 2 week holiday. The quality and hygiene was impeccable in these troubled times. Tony is always keen to help you get the best from your holiday. He is a mine of useful information on things to do, places to visit and places to eat. The swimming pool was great and one of the best kept we have seen. We compliment Tony on his quick responses, outstanding hospitality, local tips and sparklig cleanliness.
Guest rating:
A perfect holiday This was our 3rd stay at Le Manoir and it was even better. This year we took Tony’s advice that September is a great time to stay. And we were not disappointed. The weather was superb and there are so many things to do and places to eat but, the families with school children have gone home, so you feel you have the place to yourselves. Great and comfortable accommodation with everything you would need for a two week stay. Beautiful grounds which you can enjoy whilst sitting by the delightful pool or on your patio.
Guest rating:
Rural cottage and gite with lovely clean well maintained pool shared between the 2 properties. Ideal for 3 generations(we were aged 7 to 91!). The property’s own grounds were beautiful and cycling around the local lanes and villages was very enjoyable. Very reasonable cycle hire from the owner! Many interesting towns within easy reach by car SAINTES, Jonzac, beaches around Royan and the smaller ports along the Gironde estuary. Tony was a very welcoming and knowledgeable host who introduced us to many new places in the area --even though we had visited Jonzac before on several occasions. Both Cottage and Gite were well equipped with everything we needed.
Guest rating:
Very good cottage in a beautiful property. The swimming pool was large and very nice. All the other games (billiards, table football etc.) for our children were perfect. Had a good time. Well located for beautiful walks.
Guest rating:
Our family stay at Tony's Le Manoir was exceptional. The cottage is very well located to visit the coast of the estuary of the Gironde and the countless surrounding villages. Tony is an excellent guide who will explain how to find small beaches, where to settle to enjoy the night markets despite the heat wave. Even when it is 40 degrees outside the cottage is delightfully cool. The pool is very well maintained and there are many possibilities to spend friendly family moments: badminton / billiards / ping-pong. In short, a very pleasant holiday and we will be back.

Great place for a family holiday. We had a great holiday here. There is so much to do in the huge grounds as well as the beautiful pool that kept the children happily entertained. But when you feel like exploring, the surrounding area has it all. Tony the owner provides a personal briefing on the area and all of its attractions, restaurants and beaches. Don't miss this, its just what you need to get the holiday off to a flying start. The Gite is very comfy and well equipped and provides everything a family of 4 needs for a holiday in this beautiful part of France.
Guest rating:
We had the best time staying at Le Manoir. The pool and the grounds are incredible, and the cottage is a beautiful place to stay. But the best thing about staying here is Tony. From the moment we arrived he was a brilliant host, and he's thought of everything - the children loved the play barn and the swings as well as the swimming pool. Tony is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about this corner of France, and pointed us in the direction of a go karting track and a wonderful night market as well as fabulous beaches. Thank you for such a memorable holiday!
Guest rating:
You will love how peaceful it is here. Delightful and very clean pool. Tony is very welcoming and helpful with all of your needs. A very nice place to stay. We are from the Paris region of France.

A very comfortable gite
The location is excellent for exploring this lovely region. The gite is very comfortable in tranquil surroundings with a super pool. Tony was an excellent host and always on hand should you have any queries or problems. We will certainly use this property again.Guest rating:
Totally peaceful setting
The Gites and Manor House are set in acres of grounds with swimming pool and lots of outdoor games. Such a lovely quiet rural setting. The gite was clean with comfy beds and plenty of room for four people. It has its own patio with a BBQ. The barn has table football, table tennis, darts etc to keep youngsters and the young at heart amused. Also bikes available to explore the locality. It was a very relaxing holiday. Thanks to the owner who lives on site and proved extremely helpful.Guest rating:
Lovely, Peaceful Gite Accomodation
The gite sits within a four acre garden and is very peaceful. The gite has cooking facilities, Wi-fi, and satellite connection for UK channels (BBC, ITV etc).Tony, the owner, has provided plenty of activities to entertain a family including: A very god sized swimming pool, table tennis, table football table, darts, basketball, volleyball, badminton. Tony met with us shortly after our arrival and was able to provide us with lots of information about the local area and advised on places that we might like to visit during our stay. If we had a question then Tony would do his best to provide us with an answer.Guest rating:
Gites at Le Manoir are a great place to stay. A peaceful setting in 4 acres only a short drive from the coast and surrounded by history with plenty of activities for everyone. A game of boule, swim in the pool, bike riding etc. Tony is a brilliant host with local knowledge and ideas. Highly recommended.
Guest rating:
We stayed for 2 weeks in the Gite - with 2 children 11 and 13. We enjoyed cycling to the nearest Boulangerie(15 mins) and Go Kartng track(20 mins). The Manoir has all the facilities you would want to entertain with children- great pool, table tennis, table football and many other games in the grounds. It was nice to share the pool with a friendly family in the bigger gite. Tony the owner is very attentive but not too intrusive and has many good tips on the local area and what to do. Our favourites were - on site pool, Go Karting locally, Jonzac Market on Wednesday evening, Pons keep and pedaloes by the river, beach at St Georges De Didonnes with bikes along the beach. All in all we had a very enjoyable time.
Guest rating:
Our visit to Le Manoir was delightful. Quiet and peaceful in extensive grounds we thought the situation was beautiful. We had excellent weather, and the well maintained large swimming pool was a fun way to cool down in the late afternoon. Both Gites have a comprehensive barbecue set, and the owner, who lives on site, was pleased to advise where to buy the best meat and food locally. Each gite is well equipped with TV etc and we cooked most evening meals on the barbecue. A Super U supermarket is situated at Mirabeau only a few miles away, and the coast is about a half hours drive away. The coastal towns and villages are very charming and picturesque with good restaurants. Tony Dearsley the owner will always point you in the right direction. A lovely weeks holiday.
Guest rating:
This is a beautiful location easily accessible from Bordeaux and just a few minutes from the town of Mirambeau. The gite is part of a manoir where the owner Tony (English) lives and the setting is lovely, some times we just sat around the large pool but the location is ideal for touring the region and Tony was very helpful with ideas and helped plan our trips. Even our teenage kids enjoyed their stay!Guest rating:
We spent a lovely week at the gorgeous Le Manoir gite with our two boys aged 3 and 5. We loved our stay and we will have some great memories to share. The boys had an absolute ball and were very sad to go. We had a ball exploring the grounds and loved splashing about in the pool. Our 3 year old loved the ladder swing and our 5 year old loved hunting for snakes and lizards! A favourite pastime was for the boys to be cycling around the driveway whilst we could happily sip on our stock of French wine! We met some lovely people in the cottage opposite and the laid back nature and size of the grounds meant we could relax knowing all the children were playing happily and we could even have a conversation! With some great tips from Tony we explored the local area when the weather wasn't quite as hot as expected!Guest rating:
This is a very comfortable property in a great location for exploring the villages and beaches on the Gironde estuary and also the countryside inland towards Cognac. It is good territory for cycling having a mass of very quiet roads. The gite has every facility and we much enjoyed the salt water pool and there is ample space for children to play outside as well as having indoor table tennis. We had splendid weather for touring around the local villages. Jonzac is a particularly good town for shopping and only about 20 minutes away by car. Our host, Tony Dearsley, was very affable and helpful at all times. I recommend the place.Guest rating:
Thank you Tony for a relaxing holiday, the Gite was a perfect base and a first experience of a Gite that showed us how much there is to do in the local area.Tony's wealth of knowledge in the area is considerable and had we had longer here we would probably of experienced more. Really enjoyed the cycle our cycle to get our fresh bread at Plassac in the morning. Enjoyed a trip to the zoo at La Palmyre, lots to see and you get closer to the animals than you do in the UK. Another great place is the Chateau La Roche Courbon, beautiful gardens, you get to see all inside the Chateau plus the walk to the pre-historic caves. Some lovely lazy days by the pool before and after the visits out. For children a visit to the Les Antilles at Jonzac which is an aqua park, is highly recommended. Thank you Tony for such a great experience, we would definitely consider visiting again and staying in your Gite.Guest rating:
Thank you Tony for a lovely holiday. We enjoyed a number of days out including: The beach at St George de Didonne. Right next to the beach is a well organised Go-Ape style tree / zip-line adventure with a good safety briefing before hand. Rock pooling at Plage des Vergues. Ask Tony about the special trick for getting the hidden animal life to come out of hiding and into your net! Cote Sauvage. You have to walk 400 yards to reach the huge beach with good waves and especially good for skim-boarding. Canoeing along the Charente River at Jarnac. A highly recommended day out with some exciting weirs but quite tiring. Evening market at Jonzac. Lovely evening where you can sample foods some of your family might never have dreamed of eating!! Day Trip to St Emillion. Beautiful small town to wander around and have a meal in the main square. Hundreds of wine shops – not surprisingly!! A good day out.Guest rating:
This place is awesome!!! I would go to Suzac beach at Meschers it has golden sand and the water in the sea isn't very deep so it is good for little children. If the tide is low you can go through a cave and there is a restaurant nearby. (Cameron nearly 10!)
Fantastic Holiday! Tony gives excellent advice about the area and there are many lovely places to visit.
Guest rating:
What a brilliant first Gite Experience. Plenty to do and see. Kids loved the pool and the open space, try the Karting at St Genis - no health and safety - great!!And the Zoo at La Palmyre - a bit of shade if the sun is too strong!
Thanks Tony for all of your help and guidance.
Guest rating:
We stayed at The Gite for 2 weeks and every day was Fab! We had great weather so we decided to we would do trips every other day so we could also enjoy the house and grounds.
Our 4 year old loved this idea as it gave her time to enjoy the pool and other games but also meant she was never bored.
We hope all future guests enjoy their holiday as much as we did.
Thanks Tony for everything!
Guest rating:
We had two wonderful weeks at The Gite. The accommodation has been great and the facilities that Tony has provided in the grounds mean that the kids have plenty to do.
The Pool is fantastic and we spent several days at the pool side relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. Tony is an excellent host and is ready with lots of information about the surrounding area and weather.
Thanks again Tony, our favourite French holiday to date.

A truly wonderful stay, many thanks to Tony and his children for making our stay so superb and welcome.
Tony is passionate about the surrounding area and has a vast knowledge of the best towns, wines, restaurants and beaches.
Beautiful Gite kept wonderfully cool when the beaches became outrageously warm.
Thank you so much for your excellent hospitality.

We enjoyed the whole experience and flying in to La Rochelle, hiring a car to drive down, was quick and easy.
The garden gave us all room to do what we each wanted., particularly when the girls got a little loud in the pool! Plenty of space to find some peace and quiet. We loved watching the birds and the butterflies.
Tony always close at hand if any help or information needed - thank you.
I have enjoyed everything that this Gite has to offer - which is a lot. Thanks Tony for making our holiday so exciting. I have had a wonderful time.
PS Thanks for the cake and Ice cream!!!

Great time here at Le Manoir. The Gite is very comfortable and well equipped, everything has been thought of thanks.
The gardens are amazing and beautiful, very peaceful and relaxing. We spent a lot of time here, playing golf, flying kites, cricket as well as of course using the pool and all the other facilities. Table tennis and the pool table went down a treat. Saw lots of lizards which we loved.Lots of visits of which we have left details in the Gite Guest Book.
Used the bikes regularly in the morning to cycle down the lanes enjoying the sun flowers on the way to the boulangerie. Bit hot to cycle later in the day but managed a few runs whilst the boys cycled, lovely!
Tony is very helpful and always on the lookout for your enjoyment plus will always book restaurants if you need him to. All in all very relaxing and well thought out. Thank you it was a great holiday !!

We have stayed twice at Tony's Cottage. The first year we were on our own as a family and stayed in the Cottage. We liked it so much that we came back the following year with my parents-in-law and then booked both the Cottage and the Gite.
The location and the facilities of the place are fantastic. The kids (they were 4 and 6 the first time we went) loved all the space and the pool is excellent. Tony is a great host and always helpful in providing information on the local activities as well as helping to book tables at restaurants.
The Cottage is lovely and so nicely fitted out. It felt very relaxing and we will always have fond memories of the nights spent outside having a bar-b-q and relaxing enjoying a glass of Pineau.
The location is good for local restaurants and easy to get to shops. It's a little longer than the 30 mins to the nearest good beaches but as we were with young kids it was easy to get up early and be on the beach before lunch and have no trouble parking.
We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend to friends to stay at the Cottage.

We have been sorry to leave Le Manoir as we have had such a lovely time. The grounds are idyllic and both children and adults have enjoyed the freedom and space.
Tony has been most welcoming and helpful, we really couldn't have asked for more. Thank you. Our daughter aged 8 has written an advert for Le Manoir based on her holiday here, hope you enjoy it!!
If you haven't found your dream holiday home, we have got the place for you! Down in the South West of France, what we have found is the perfect place. With three lovely old buildings, we have chosen this because it has a swimming pool, a trampoline, lovely gardens and it is close to the beach!!

Thanks Tony for all your help - the only bad part of the holiday break was packing up to go!
The weather was perfectly behaved and even the fairest of us achieved some colouring. We found some really beautiful beaches, details of which we have left in the Cottage Guest Book.
The downstairs suite with ensuite wet room was great for our daughter who needs a wheelchair and the local disability centre in Jonzac were able to provide all that we needed. We all had a lovely time and may well visit again. Many thanks.

This has been a wonderful week packed with lots of visits and things to do. We have left details of our great experiences in the Guest Book at the Gite.
Tony has been an excellent host and supplied us with lots of useful information.
All in all a brilliant week. My son even rated this as better than our trip to Orlando, Florida!

Additional price notes
- Prices are based on occupancy by 4 people (2 in each bedroom). An additional person can be accommodated by adding an extra 3rd bed into the large twin bedded bedroom. An extra rental charge of £45 per week is payable if you require this option outside of July and August. In July and August, the extra rental charge is £65.
- Usually we are only able to do a minimum of two weeks rental in July and August unless the holiday is less than 6 weeks away or a single week remains between other bookings. If you only require 1 week, its always worth checking with us.
- We are happy to discuss alternative changeover days outside of mid July and August when it is Saturday.
- All beds are equipped with mattress cover, pillow and duvet or light blanket to suit the temperatures.
- You are very welcome to bring your own bed linen and towels. If you take up our option, then Bed Linen and Towel Hire means that all beds are made up for your arrival with sheet, pillowcase, duvet cover and each bed is provided with hand towel, bath towel and flannel.
- PLEASE NOTE - Linen hire does not include towels for use by the pool or on the beach. You must bring these yourself.
- Charente Maritime has a tax on holiday visitors to help pay for the additional costs they create for the local community - like extra waste to be disposed of. The tax is also used to promote tourism activities and events. The tax is only paid by adults over the age of 17 years. For my properties, the tax is #% of the proportion of the rental paid by the adults. So, if the total rental for 2 adults and 2 children was £700, the proportion paid by the adults is 2/4 or 50% so £350. The tax would then be 2.2% of £350 so £7.70, not too bad. The tax needs to be paid in EUROS to the owner at the end of your holiday. I can send more information if you email me.
