Charming Village House with Pool in Beautiful Carennac
Whether you are looking for a romantic escape in a glorious area of France, or for a comfortable base from which to explore the architecture & scenery of the Dordogne Valley, La Cour is a rare find: quietly situated on a tranquil lane, with swimming pool, gardens & private parking, yet just a 2-minute stroll into lovely Carennac ("Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France") with its wonderful Abbey, delightful summer restaurants and cafe, seasonal art galleries and its bustling Tourist office. A depot de pain operates from the local Café for your fresh baguettes & croissants during summer months, and all year round a travelling baker's van stops just below La Cour every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday.
Carennac is a jewel of a village, where ancient houses snuggle round a fabled Clunisien abbey situated on the banks of the Dordogne river. In summer, the narrow streets are festooned with colourful window-boxes, and every turn reveals thrilliing glimpses of courtyards, terraces, balconies and rose-gardens. It never fails to captivate even the most worldly of travellers.
Featured in the August 2015 edition of French Property News, this typically French "Maison de Bourg" was built sixty years ago by a former Mayor of Carennac. He chose his site wisely - on a sunny, open hillside, overlooking the meadows and rooftops of his beautiful bailiwick. It has been renovated to a high standard, with modern appliances and comfortable, stylish furnishings to reflect its intrinsic French Country charm. In addition to the pool and gardens, there is a delightful rustic garden-room, for those long, al-fresco lunches in the shade.
For those who enjoy an active holiday, local attractions include: tennis; walking, canoe-hire (accessible on foot from the village); horse-riding and two pretty water-parks (5 minutes by car). In addition, there are fairy-tale castles and hilltop villages to explore and a picture-perfect 9-hole golf course overlooking the Dordogne Valley - almost all within a 15 minute drive of the properties.
La Cour has been furnished in French Country style and comprises:
- Two elegantly-furnished bedrooms (one double, one Twin
- Bright airy Salon
- Sunny Dining Room with French doors to garden
- Modern but charmingly traditional kitchen with dishwasher and excellent appliances.
- Shower room with WC & basin re-fitted and stone-tiled
- Additional guest WC & basin re-fitted and stone-tiled
- Washing machine, dryer and additional fridge-freezer located in the stone barn beneath the main house.
- Two TVs (each with English & French channels), DVD player, DVDs, iPOD doc, CDs, Wi-fi/Broadband, Books, Cookery Books, card table and board games.
Outside
There is a sunny, raised balcony at the front of the property with pretty views (perfect for breakfast or supper). Private parking, Pool and delightful south-facing garden to the rear, with rustic garden room. Garden tables, chairs, parasols, sunloungers and cushions.
The lane is a designated walkers' route which leads you within five minutes up onto the wild and beautiful Causse de Gramat - a rocky plateau stretching south towards the Lot river some 50 kilometres distance where wildlife and rare & beautiful flowers abound in summer.
It is just a 2 minute walk to the heart of this beautiful village, and any one of several charming Carennac restaurants (April - October).
Situated on the corner of a quiet no-through lane opposite an ancient pilgrim cross in beautiful, 11th century Carennac, the property is perfectly located to explore this glorious village, with its fabled Clunisien abbey, cloisters and museum.
This is the Dordogne valley of the 100 Years War - where fortified towns, villages and chateaux dominate the hill-tops. The breathtaking Rocamadour and ancient towns of Beaulieu, St Cere and Martel are all within 20 minutes’ drive. There are many colourful local markets to visit weekly - whilst the St Cere Summer Arts Festival (July/August) features live jazz, choral concerts and opera evenings at various nearby locations. 'Fetes de village’ abound locally throughout the summer months – often with fireworks, open-air dancing and antiques fairs.
Golf, horse-riding, tennis, paragliding and swimming (river or water-park) are all within a few minutes’ drive, and canoes can be hired in the village. The area is a haven for walkers and birdwatchers– who often wander past the properties on the old pilgrim route across the wild and beautiful Causse de Gramat.
This area is rich in geological phenomena – including the famous Padirac Gorge with its underground lakes and caves.

We stayed here as a couple in July 2019, the location is fabulous and the property delighful, not your average rental property more a home from home. This is a traditional french character property with a lovely largely private garden and a beautiful private pool sitting two minutes from the beautiful centre of Carennac, there are a couple of decent restaurants and a delightful coffee shop with fresh bread and cakes all with walks, views and scenery to die for, we loved it.Guest rating:
We spent a week here and were really happy with everything about the house. It is a really beautiful property and equipped well with everything a holidaymaker could need! The location is perfect, on the edge of a breathtakingly lovely village on the banks of the Dordogne river. It is peaceful and restful but a few minutes walk and you're in the village with a selection of great eateries. Local walking and canoeing are excellent. We hope to return!Guest rating:
We were lucky enough to stay here the first week in August 2016. I didn't dare believe it was as beautiful as it looked or that the pool really was all ours but sure enough, what you see is what you get! The house is just lovely, very chic decoration yet totally practical. You can tell this is Paul and Kathy's cherished property not just a holiday let. The beds were comfy, the kitchen well equipped and we found a plethora of books, games and even DVDs. The garden is fabulous, totally exclusive and private with that wonderful pool and the fantastic garden room. Lunch and dinners alfresco, perfect. We cannot recommend this wonderful place enough and hope to return. A visitor's book in the house would be good, since there isn't one, if you're eating out in Carennac, our advice is La Petite Vigne.Guest rating:
We have just returned from a very pleasant week at La Cour. House is very well located just on the edge of beautiful Carennac, which has several restaurants. The house is very comfortable, well furnished and a perfect size for four people, the garden and pool area perfect to relax and dine in the evenings. Owners very friendly and reliable. Highly recommended.Guest rating:
We have been coming back every year for the past five years to The House in Carennac. We love the house and garden, find the area so peaceful, and the proximity to the village & surrounding area ideal for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. We couldn't ask for a more perfect spot.Guest rating:
