17th Century Wine Estate with Stunning Views of Mont Ventoux, heated pool
High above the rolling hills of Vaucluse, the charming medieval village of Crestet offers spectacular views of Mont Ventoux and the Ouveze Valley.
Here, amidst lush vineyards, nestles "La Fontaine de Charambaud", a 17th century farmhouse/domaine viticole, that has recently been totally renovated. Within its age old walls you will find three luxurious and spacious holiday-homes called "le Hibou", "le Martinet" and "le Rossignol".
The beautiful accommodation "le Martinet "comprises:
- A very charming and sunny Salon with two armchairs and big sofa, that offers spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
- The dining area with its big antique table is ideal for a french dejeuner, but maybe you prefer eating outside at the round terrace table under the pergola. Or just take a comfortable garden chair to relax under the deep shadow of the plane tree.
- The kitchen is fully furnished (e.g. dishwasher, combi-oven, washing machine) and has all the equipment/utensils that you might need (from oyster knife to wine cooler).
- Charming bathroom with shower and washstand.
- Separate WC.
- Two bedrooms (one with double bed 200 x 160 cm, one with 2 single beds 200 x 80), an extra bed in one bedroom is possible.
From the salon with its age old oak beams you look out over the green hills, the vineyards and Mont Ventoux. The french windows open to the plane-shaded terrace and the murmur of the source in the old water basin. There is a very charming kitchen, where you can prepare yourself a superior Nespresso or prepare wonderful meals.
The windows of your bedroom, facing the far hills of the Ouveze Valley, welcome the sun in the early morning.
As you enter the age-old courtyard, you are welcomed by the merry sound of a splashing fountain. There is a table tennis and football game, cafe-tables, and an abundance of flowers.
"La Fontaine de Charambaud" is surrounded by a superb setting of 10.000m2 of vineyards, cherry and peach trees, lavender fields and extensive lawns. Pool 7 x 13 m is heated.
35 km east of the Rhone river in the upper part of the Provence, the property la Fontaine de Charambaud is located in the valley of the Ouveze, just 3 km south of Vaison-la-Romaine in the French department of Vaucluse. You will find green countryside bordered on the west side by the rocky Dentelles de Montmirail (734m) and on the east side by the pre-Alpes, with the dominating Mont Ventoux at a height of 1912m visible from the property.
This valley has a very mild climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year with a long summer providing comfortable temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius in July and August.
Le Crestet (pop. 440) is a small protected medieval historical village on top of a hill. Surrounded by vineyards, olive and almond trees it has many small alleyways with beautiful architecture. The Financial Times quoted it as one of the best preserved medieval small villages of Provence. At the top of the village is a small castle with a square that provides a staggering view over the valley, Mont Ventoux and the valley of Crestet. Lou Parpaioun is situated just several hundred meters east of the village center at the bottom of the hill. Crestet has 3 restaurants.
The hills and mountains around Crestet offer many hiking and (mountain) biking trails, with beautiful views over the numerous vineyards and scattered small Provencal villages. The Ouveze river, a few hundred meters from the property, offers various spots for swimming and multiple fishing opportunities.
The Toulourenc river at 10 minutes distance by car offers a breathtaking canyon. The height of Mont Ventoux allows for down hill and cross country skiing on the northern slope during some of Crestet's colder short winters. With its green wooded base, well known for truffles, the bold top shows different colours every moment of the day as the light changes.

Warm welcome with a bottle of wine on the table! The Gite is spacious and cozy, you will feel right at home. A cozy dining table, comfortable sofa and chairs, good working WiFi and TV and fresh bedrooms with comfortable beds. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, the beautiful terrace and the grapes that we were allowed to pick where delicious. In short, fantastic location with hospitable owners, we certainly plan to come back.
Guest rating:
We had two great weeks at Fontaine de Charambaud. The gites were spacious, nicely decorated and fully equipped. From the terrace you have a great view of the countryside and the Mont Ventoux. There is a lovely large swimming pool with a spacious garden around. On warm days it is wonderful to relax in the shade of the cherry trees. A bakery, restaurant and fruit stand with delicious strawberries and apricots are a 5-minute walk away. A ten minute drive you have Vaison with all facilities and two large supermarkets. There is more than enough to do in the area. Beautiful surroundings for cycling and walking, beautiful small villages and nice spots along the river for cooling off with the children. And plenty of restaurants nearby where you can have an extensive lunch in the shade in the hot afternoon hours. We will definitely come back. Thanks for the wonderful holiday Eric and Marion !!
Guest rating:
We spent 2 wonderful weeks in La Fontaine de Charambaud. For us it was a "sentimental journey". And yes, this time again it was lovely. We stayed in the Martinet, a very nice apartment that is cosily furnished and fully equipped. The most beautiful is the view of the fruit trees and vineyards. Mont Ventoux can also be seen. There is a nice swimming pool and the surrounding area is very beautiful. If you have already seen all the tourist highlights in the area, there is still plenty to see and do nearby. In short: an ideal place for us.
